The 90s children’s tv show ‘Zzzap!’ was actually designed with deaf children in mind which explains a lot in hindsight

  1. I loved the Handymen. Especially the way they’d casually backhand the signs that overstayed their welcome.

  2. I always loved how offbeat ZZZap! felt. It’s been some years since I watched kids’ TV so I don’t know if any of it still feels that way, but the rest of pop culture has lost that charm now.

  3. I loved Zzzap! but only up to Series 7.

After Series 7, Smarty Arty was replaced with Minnie Magic and I didn’t really care much for her. Daisy Dare was also changed not long after that and I always preferred the original Daisy Dare.

Also, fun fact, the role of The Handymen was actually played by a woman.

Finally, [here’s a playlist of the music from the series](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL74CEBE9E9ABB8147) if anyone is interested.

  4. It’s so obvious looking at it now!

I loved Tricky Dicky’s Mission Impossible, but he was replaced by Daisy because he was considered a bit too creepy for young kids. His theme tune was really cool.

  5. My big brother was big into Zzzzzaaap!

I told him it was for disabled kids and he punched me in the nads so hard I can still feel it.

  6. Really didn’t like this when I was a child watching CITV. Used to turn it over to BBC One when it came on.

  7. Great show that, remember having a similar relevation when I also found out, just some stock sound effects to make it alright if you could hear too, so everyone benefitted

  8. What ever happened to Cuthbert Lilly?

    He’s dead silly.

  9. I read this as blind and spent 4 mins listening with my eyes closed.

    Bedtime I think.

  10. I was always frustrated that the giant comic had like 9 squares, but we only ever saw what was behind the same 4 or 5 🙁

  11. Holy batman, I didn’t realise it but I had a crush on Daisy.
