I had a reserved ticket from Munich to Salzburg on Westbahn. First of all it’s shit difficult navigating to munich train station.

I saw on the board, it stated my train will be from platform 7. I reached platform 7 and it train name and number was clearly written so I waited. I started noticing no one is there on the platform. I googled for the train timetable and live status – bingo nothing is there.

There was one line written on the top in German above the train details. I translated it and it said train will leave from platform 6 and the train left in front of my eyes 🙂

If there’s change of platform, kindly remove it from the wrong platform. And ffs why can’t you state it in English? I’m coming from Italy, they state everything in Italian and English.

    If they do that, the people who are looking for that train will be completely confused. Now, the note where it is instead might be more prominent, but you still need a clue so people know where to look instead.

  2. I find the DB-app quite reliable, and yes, Munich station is a pain if you have to transfer to the small platforms

  3. Well, the one time I was in Italy I found it horrible. There were no English signs or announcements and no information where trains left. I used the app, set it to English and that worked. So next time you travel be prepared if you don’t speak the language:)

  4. You are certainly not wrong in your argument that the text should be German and English or not specific to language such as 7->6 in some way.

    I am only commenting that on this sub and also r/AskAGerman there are nearly daily discussions on how you don’t need German, everything is English, everybody speaks English and you can totally lead a normal life without any problems without German. Stuff like this what you describe? Pff… Rare exceptions. Bad luck. Not the rule.

    I remember when I visited my home town and my non-German partner was supposed to join me a little later. He has take the train from Düsseldorf Airport to my town before, together with me. I didn’t have access to a car, so we decided he can go by train. Except, the train schedule was all scrambled due to a bomb in the Ruhr area and all announcements were in German and the staff didn’t speak English or refused to speak English. At the airport station. He called me all frustrated to tell me he is stuck and cannot get a train because of the language barrier and the taxi drivers speak no English either.

    I ended up borrowing my friend’s Mum’s car to go and fetch him.
