Well we know what the beasts will be up to when they take the knee.
For a party all about ‘British value’ they have utterly defiled the honours system. Once, MPs only got knighthoods if they’d been in parliament for about 40 years, now they get them for toeing the line for a few years. Then there’s handing them out to donors.
Anyone claiming to support British values should be appalled by this, it’s striking when they aren’t.
A bit of a tangent but why did we specifically need an upskirting law?
Surely this would be covered under lewd behaviour or sexual predation etc? For full context I support the illegality of upskirting, just amazed our current laws didn’t cover it.
Is the headline trying to imply that they were knighted for blocking the upskirting bill?

Doesn’t Christopher Chope basically vote against almost everything on procedural grounds?
IIRC, he has an issue with the manner in which most bills are passed so will vote against any bill that doesn’t follow what he believes to be the proper process – I think it’s something to do with the way it’s voted on?
Edit: Looks like he votes against pretty much all private members bills, because he believes that all private members bills should be properly debated before being put to a vote – and the sheer volume of private members bills and lack of parliamentary time dedicated to them means that private members bills generally aren’t debated (or at least, not to the standard that he believes they should be).
Having a knighthood is basically a statement these days that you’re utterly vile and corrupt. The actual decent people like charity workers or scientists get CBEs/MBEs.
Those have really become the greater honour because they’re still indicators of merit.
Well, at least we all now know, outside of the weird clubs they may frequent, knighthood means nothing. Same as lordship, means nothing. It’s like people who put their qualifications in their email signature, embarrassing really. I’ll call a doctor a doctor but that’s about it.
I’d love to see a complete ban on all these ridiculous titles for everyone, we don’t live in the fucking regency
