  1. I agree with JRM. Thats something I never thought id say.

If your gonna have private companies in the mix you should be prepared to let them go bust when they fuck up.

  2. Essential services should never be run for profit. Its a bad model that encourages poor service and asset sweating.

  3. It’s been suggested by the Greens in the House of Lords too.
Never thought I’d see the day when they both recommend the same thing.

  4. For once I agree with this rat. An absolutely appalling company. To hell with them and their shareholders.

Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if his argument is that Thames Water is just uniquely a fuck up and it would have gone splendid when handed off to another company to run.

  6. I wonder what he has in mind after it goes bust? I bet he wants it to be bought up and carry on as a privatised enterprise

  7. Let it go bankrupt, buy up the wreck for next to nothing, asset strip the corpse, make a fat pile of money. Very on brand for JRM.

  8. Let them go bankrupt, then bring them into public ownership.

  9. No Mogg, it should be re-nationalised and the shareholders should deal with the debt.

  10. What I’m taking from this is that he doesn’t have a financial interest here.

  11. If they go bankrupt the infrastructure falls apart and a bunch of other investment firms will buy it up for cheap. That’s what’s in it for him.

Meanwhile people will suffer and living standards will decrease.

I predicted a while back that in 10 -15 it’ll be normal for tap what we to be undrinkable and we’ll all be drinking bottled water. They’ll sell us the idea that it’s just not financially viable and too expensive for government to achieve clean drinking water to taps. Despite us being able to do it for 100 years.

  12. I agree let them completely fuck up and then the government can buy them for a pound and bring it back onto state ownership where it should have been in the first place.

  13. Yeah sure but don’t just then sell it on to another private company and we’re in the same position in 10 years. Use our tax money for some good for a change and buy it for pennies

  14. Yes they should. And then it should be state owned…..

  15. Nothing that our lives depend on should be privately owned. That should be owned by all of us.

  16. I suspect that the reason he wants it to go bankrupt is so that all of the investors can walk away with their big cash bonuses and leave the taxpayer to pick up the bill.

They should claw that money back from the investors and then nationalise it

  17. He is right, the people who run Thames Water and its shareholders bet that they could do what ever they wanted because water is an essential service so they figure the gov will always bail them out. Let it go to the wall the taps will keep running

  18. “Let the poors drink puddle water” – but he’s right of course. They are a failed business.

My father was employed by Thames a few years ago. He was one of the “boffins” that did the scientific stuff & planned infrastructure layouts. He now works for Kier in their water management division. To be clear: People like my father are trying to subvert waste, greed & pollution. His degree in Environmental Science is a sort of “Hippocratic oath” to do so.

  19. He added: “The leadership of Thames Water has been a disgrace. I think for years now we have seen customers of Thames Water taken advantage of by successive management teams that have been taking out profits and not investing as they should have been.”

If only there were an organisation or group of individuals that could have held the company to account or protected the customers so it didn’t come to this point.

  20. I’m the same. Big conflict,I hate the wank, but he’s right. The Tory idea is free market economy. They’re going bust, fuck’em.

  21. Tbf a free market would and should have this company collapse – which in turn should put off other companies expecting the government to bail them out.

That’s how the system should work.

  22. Let it go bankrupt and then let the government buy it up for pennies on the pound and the execs get fucked.

  23. Now they’ve used it as collateral for loans they’ve removed to give to themselves and there’s no juice left to squeeze, I’m sure he’ll be content for the public to fund a new Thames Water II so it can be done all over again. Unless he’s content for the south-east not to have water. Let’s see.

  24. My biggest problem with Thames water is the Tory play book of making anything and everything a private ran company that was once ran by the government, is the same thing they want to do with the NHS. I don’t doubt for a moment that a private NHS won’t be asset stripped like all councils will be, as they become privately own under the guise of being called free ports.

The Tory government only cares about the well paid back handlers and private jobs they work in during and after being in politics.
