  9. It’s ridiculous that this needs to be said. It’s even more ridiculous that so many Americans can’t see why a temporary bump in gas prices is a tiny price to pay compared to letting Russia win.

    Give me CA gas prices all day if it means kneecapping Russia.

  10. Dems are smart to distance themselves from bombing Russian refineries. Trump will use it as, “I won’t piss off Putin and cause gas to go up. I’ll make it lower.”. 

  12. Oil refineries are obviously dual-use in nature, and result in significant military contribution to a war effort.

    Pretty much definitionally, dual-use structures like that are valid targets under the Laws of Armed Conflict.

    The same is true of things like bridges, electric power stations, communications equipment, and so on.

    That being said, the criticisms aren’t based on international law concerns, but more global economic concerns.

  15. Tricky situation for Ukraine because if they keep attacking Russian oil infrastructure the price of gas will go up worldwide. If that happens you just know Trump and the Republicans will use that against Biden, and Trump getting elected again in the US would be terrible for Ukraine

  16. His country is at war with Russia. Obviously part of war is destroying your opponent’s economy. If European states cannot survive without Russian oil, it’s time to look for alternatives. Invest in green energy. Give the Saudis a call (not exactly a better option but it is an alternative). Heck, the United States is the largest producer of oil in the world, maybe start buying energy from an ally rather than a belligerent rogue state.

  17. I think this is very much a “oh no, don’t, stop” situation from the west that is being blown wildly out of proportion by parties interested in this not happening.

    Its up to UKR to decide how to conduct its war.

  19. Nothing to defend. Russia is waging war against Ukraine, Ukraine has every right to strike back. Especially against infrastructure critical to Russia’s economy and therefore war effort.

    Why doesn’t Russia have to defend targeting Ukrainian civilians and targets irrelevant to the Ukrainian war effort?
