  1. She was born and raised in Russia, don’t leave that out

  2. If you have any ties to the USA they see you as a potential asset. So they’re keep you until you can be dealt for value, its nearly cost free for Putin.

  3. “They aren’t doing enough to bring her home” What the hell is the US government suppose to do?

  4. She’s a Russian ballerina who has dual Russian-US citizenship.
There isn’t much help the US can offer in this situation.

  5. If youre a yank (or other European) in russia at this point… you are on your own. Thats just a cold hard truth. How many different stories and testimonies do you have to hear before you understand not to go to russia? And if you have dual citizenship (russia/US) you should definitely friggin know better.

  6. I cannot open the link to read the story, so I’m just guessing: she went to visit her relatives.

I have a work colleague, who has Russian relatives from her mothers side. It has been very hard for her not to be able to see her old grandmother, who she holds very dear. She is afraid she won’t be able to see her grandmother before she dies. It’s painful to watch.

I could be wrong in this case, as I’m not able open the link from Europe.

  7. People need to wake up to the fact that Russia see’s themselves as at war with the West now, whether we’re ready to see it that way or not. It doesn’t matter if you were born in Russia, have dual citizenship, etc., because you’re considered influenced by the West, and therefore a threat to Russian (State) ideals. Enter at your own risk, and be prepared for this to last for years.

  8. I mean, come on people. State department told you NOT to go to Russia, because they will trap your ass for BS like this. She chose to ignore the warning.
I feel sorry for her, but not a good decision.

  9. The silliest thing for me is ‘reading law books’. Does she not realise that there is no due process in Russia anymore? You can’t ‘beat the system’ out there. Russia is a mafia state. The judiciary and the dictatorship is one and the same. Best thing Russians in Russia can do is keep their head down and behave or to kill Putin. That’s it. And the best thing Russians outside Russia can do is stay the fuck away. Noone in their right mind should be thinking about visiting, Russian or not.

  10. She doesn’t seem all that intelligent. Natural selection. Nature thins the herd one way or another. Sucks to be her. Would suck to be unfortunate enough to be associated with that country. She’s fucked.

  11. No one has any reason to willingly walk into a freezing cold dictatorship. Stupid stupid stupid. They keep telling you.

  12. This is a shitty situation, if she went to visit friends or family etc etc thay horrible.
And as for some that say to stay away, it’s easier said than done when most of your family live in said country.
Still silly for going there, but it’s understandable

  13. She should be reading lockpicking books or “How to Bribe for Dummies” instead

  14. Russian Laws 101

Page 1: Call your politically connected friends and beg for help.

    Page 2: The end.

  15. ““She’s not home. I am very hopeful that we will get Ksenia wrongfully detained, declared soon. And that’s a problem right now. I’ve asked, ‘What’s holding this up?’… They have assured me that they are trying to get closer to Ksenia every single day. **This is, at the moment, not possible because Russia does not recognize the dual citizenship,” Van Heerden said.**”

Why isn’t the USA doing anything? They’re not doing anything! Why are they saying they are going to do something when they clearly can’t do anything?

Wtf is this guy even trying to say?

You’re not trying! If you are trying you’re not trying hard enough! If you’re trying hard enough it doesn’t matter because the Russians don’t care.

  16. War and politics aside, I’m deeply surprised on why people don’t know basic laws on places where they go? Like every month there is some Russian living abroad that goes to Russia and finds out that their other passport is as good as TP while in there.

The local law is stupid, but you either follow it or don’t go.

  17. Why is she there? Don’t let her be the reason for more strained international relations. It’s like its inevitable lol

  18. Didn’t she donate money to Ukraine? That’s why they arrested her? Plus in Russia they don’t recognize dual citizenship. To then she is a Russian citizen who gave like $40 to ukraine.

  19. I was wondering how she could have thought it was OK to visit Russia. Now it makes sense. She actually thought Russia follows the rule of law.
