Anyone that's spent time in the Portobello/Ladbroke Grove area has likely tried or at least heard of Georges. Their nugget rolls are legendary in the area and generations of the family that own it have worked there.

I'm really sad to see it go but thankful for the decades of decent chip shop grub they've provided.

  1. Don’t be sad. I heard they sold the building for 5mill.

  2. Anyone else grew up around here, walked past this place a millions times, but never ate there?

Was it any good? I always went to the one on the other side of Notting Hill between church street and campden hill road.

  3. Probably just all the competition forces them to close, after all,the health conscious younger generation that London is full of can and do eat stuff from all over the world, even the smallest countries/regions have take aways to temp

  4. There was a post on the economics of running a chip shop last year on one of the UK subs.

Surprisingly pricey to run was my takeaway.

  5. Absolutely gutted, George’s was the last decent chippy in west London.

  6. No doubt to be replaced by some crap fried chicken shop

  7. My ex girlfriend once found a 10 pence piece in her fish batter from here once.
Great food with an added bonus.
