What ever it takes to sell more shit
if in the menu it’s written ‘limonada leonesa’…
Phew! I was worried my bar’s drink, the “fuck a Spaniard in the culo with a dead Palestinian child’s fist”, was in poor taste for Holy Week. Glad I’m not in the minority any longer…
*”Juice! I was saying juice”*.
But yeah, one of quite a few traditions in Spain that look very odd to an outsider. Americans seeing semana santa for the first time always raises a few eyebrows!
Mexico has literally a town called Matamoros. Spain was Muslim for 400 years. After the reconquest, they forced Muslims and Jews to convert to Christianity, or face death or be expelled. The fucked inheritance of those days still present.
Spain..do you even have any Jews left?..
Reading the recipe, it sounds a lot like traditional Sangria.
Edit: That name means ‘bloodletting’ and what do you know, the two drinks are related: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sangria
>Sangria/sangría means “bloodletting” in Spanish[5] and in Portuguese.[6] The term sangria used for the drink can be traced back to the 18th century.[7]
Sangria has its historical roots in the Kingdom of León during the Middle Ages, where the precursor beverage, leonese lemonade, originated. During this era, residents of the Leonese kingdom crafted this concoction using wine, oranges, lemons, sugar, and spices. Wine lemonade has endured as a popular beverage in the region of Castile and León in Spain, gaining prominence in consumption, particularly during Holy Week.[8][9]
The sangria cocktail, on the other hand, has been enjoyed since at least the early 19th century.
Also known as the António Guterres. Shaken, not stirred.
And people wonder why Jewish people need Israel?
They really didn’t make it open to interpretation lol
*“People are used to it here, it’s an expression that is not racist at all,” said José Manuel, who works at Vychio Cafe Bar. “It’s an expression from a time period of racism but now, no, it’s an expression out of custom.”*
Yeah, c’mon guys. Nowadays, Spain saves its causal racism for black soccer players, like real civilized folk.
“An expression, it’s not racist” – ehh, isn’t some racism expressed through words and labels?
“Its not racism, it’s art”
I’ve seen some comments here about “it’s just a name”.
So I went and googled “racist cocktail names” and found all kinds of articles.
How do you feel about a cocktail named ‘The Negro’?
A staff of 25 workers left a bar after the manager added drinks named- “The Negro” & “The Caucasian”.
I’m assuming you can decide that saying something offensive might not be valid in 2024 and go against it
The spanish are a different brees when it comes to racism. They honestly don’t even see it as being racist. There’s a young black madrid player atm who is getting called the n word and monkey every game and so many spaniards are saying it’s not racist because all players get abuse.
>”It’s an expression here,” Margarita Torres Sevilla, a professor of medieval history at the University of León, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “For example, you tell me, ‘Have a drink with me? Okay, let’s go kill Jews.’ Another typical sentence of Holy Week is, ‘How many Jews have you killed? Three, four, five [limonadas]? Oh, you have killed a lot.’”
>”It’s strange to foreigners, but they take it with a laugh,” said Sonia Da Costa, a server rushing plates and glasses to the swell of customers at Cafetería Chamberí, a local tapas bar. “Here it’s normal.”
Most fucked up thing I read this week.
Spain is the most racist country in Western Europe. It’s easily more racist than the United States, easily. If entire crowds started making monkey noises at an NFL game it would be a national scandal. In Spain it’s just part of a Saturday night. Western Europeans in general are so fucking precious about their special little countries that they really don’t like outsiders except when they drop off their money and leave.
This is just disgusting in any way you look at it!
Kill Juice? Bet it eliminates thirst.
(Wife whispers in my ear)
Oh? Oh! Yeah, no. I’ll have a beer, thanks.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
For context, this happens in literally one town (León) and it has been going on for centuries, it has nothing to do with the current war. I’m not justifying it, but the headline and comments are highly misleading.
That’s Europe for you
Now replace “jews” with “black people” or “muslims” and suddenly it gets really racist. Its almost as if the original was actually racist.
Nobody expects the inquisition, either, but here we are.
Ah yes, it’s not a expression of expulsion, forced conversion, theft, arson, rape and murder regarding Jews silly, it’s just a old timey phrase, basically fun for the whole family!
Edit: big, fat /s
