edit: NB: ik vroeg om vrijwilligers voor het inleveren van het *eigen* voordeel. Suggesties voor het inleveren van *andermans* voordeel zijn er altijd à volonté, dat was precies waarom ik het vroeg. Dat is exact waarom we een wildgroei hebben van reglementjes and voordeeltjes en kortinkjes: iedereen zit te wijzen naar het voordeel van iemand anders, terwijl ze angstvallig het eigen voordeel beschermen.

dat verdwijnt allemaal in de zakken van politiekers en dan krijgen ze bij pensioen nog een gouden handdruk van 1,5 huis. Viva la Belgique.
Is there something we can do as citizens to make it absolutely clear that we do not want to have so many utterly useless governments in our small country? It makes the entire system inefficient.
I agree with the OP that we should discourage the use of fossil fuels but at the same time encourage more innovation and replacement of old buildings with modern ones which waste electricity and warmth way less. Belgium is actually one of the worst countries in Europe when it comes to old inefficient buildings, it seems, so it should not be a surprise people need to heat their houses or flats way more.
We do not have national parties which is insane. This regionalisation makes it very hard to do much at all.

Als AB InBev alleen al correct belastingen zou betalen zouden we er veel beter voor staan.
Probleem is dat Europa mee moet, er mag geen safe haven meer zijn om je geld weg te sluizen.

Government consumption is a big category, and it’s structural expenditure is actually around 25%. What you are seeing includes wealth transfers. Including ones you probably enjoy.
One should accompany this figure with private debts, to get a better picture of our economy, by the way, cfr Michal Kalecki/JM Keynes

I lived in Finland for 5 years (originally from Germany) before moving to Belgium. Yes, the taxes up there in the North were (are!) high, but I always had the feeling I am actually getting something for my money: the streets are well maintained, the schools well funded, the public administration was functional, and if there was a problem (like, I had an issue with the tax office at some point), everybody was very helpful and supportive in sorting things out.
In Belgium … not so much.
There is still 45% left!
