“The beloved bakery chain has given staff cameras that can record up to 90 minutes in a bid to deter thieves from stealing from their stores.
Some of the UK’s busiest Greggs, including at London Bridge station, have begun phasing in the move.
A sign has been placed outside the shop which reads: “Keeping Everyone Safe”.
“To ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues, we’re trialling body-worn cameras in this shop. Audio and video will be recorded.” “

What kind of ketwig tramps steal sausage rolls ?
Just pay like normal people ya tramps !
If this isn’t a sure sign we are entering the end times, I don’t know what is.
Is this also sneakily to check if staff are working the whole time?
Oh cool, I got here before it descended into a Greggs hate thread.
I see these signs warning not to be anti-social in lots of shops around me including Greggs, it seems so out of place practically in suburbia.
The units are tiny, surely 2 mounted cameras will cover the whole area?
Greggs does what it does well, but “beloved bakery chain” is going a bit far.
[edit: I am starting to suspect I’ll need to do a public apology for this to avoid being turned into sausage rolls]
Was at the gym yesterday, some scrote was bragging that he goes in and nicks sandwiches from Greggs because “it’s staffed by kids so what are they going to do?”
I commute via train most days and, on my commute home I arrive at my home station and there’s a Greggs there.
I would say, genuinely, 50% of the time, I see the same scraggy methy girl brazenly just walk in and take two baguettes for her and her scraggy methy bloke.
I was in a Greggs in Peterborough the other week, a city with a pretty bad drug and homeless problem, and as I was queuing some junkie that was dressed like Terry from Reno 911 (minus the rollerskates), came in and just took a bunch of baguettes from by the entrance and walked off.
Next step: nothing out on shelves. Counter is protected like a Post Office. Specify what you want, pay for it, get it passed to you through a hatch.
I’ve witnessed people brazenly nicking stuff from greggs myself
Why are these criminals not being caught, having to pay for what they stole and jailed?
Like, how do they steal the sausage rolls. They’re behind glass aren’t they?
Noticed cameras on all the staff in Morrisons near me as well.
Remember chaps if you see someone stealing no you didn’t.
A cost of living crisis forced on us by tory cuts has lead to this
If you’re going to steal at least get someone nice and good quality

Has this been going on for some time or have people made this into a sorta trend or something?
No surprise this shit is happening when the police are as useless as they are now.
Okay. Al now they record them doing it but there still isn’t any consequence to the action so who cares?
Pre 2020 I walked into Greggs one day and these stereotypical rough people came in that were standing around various products picking them up, looked like they were about to put them under their jacket then look at counter and put them back, this is in a store so small the counter is a few feet from the door more like a mini store, I saw the woman pick up multiple items and the guy walk to counter and ask the staff a question and her quickly rush out then the guy says “oh I have changed my mind”
I reported it to the staff who said it was a regular occurance.
Not as bad as the local Subway used to get before the manager clamped down, they moved the crisp shelf near the till as people were coming in grabbing loads of packs and running out, and they stopped having packs of cookies at till too for the same reason. Also they moved the drinks machine closer as people were sneakily taking a cup when it was busy filling it up and not paying.
The most common one I saw junkies doing though was stealing milks and sugars, one guy filled up both jacket pockets with milks.
I’ve sat down to eat at Greggs a couple times and each time there was a scruffy looking cunt in the queue just bagging up sandwiches and drinks and then just walking off. Unfortunately, it seems you can’t trust people and must lock everything away.
How can they reach over and under the counter to get a sausage roll. That seems impossible.
After dealing with the general public on an emergency service call centre, if I was in a direct contact customer facing role then I’d very much want to wear a bodycam as both deterrent and evidence
is everyone ignoring the part of the article that said this is also to combat attacks on workers, not just theft?
I once saw a young hood in his mid-twenties try to steal a packet of muffins out of a local bakery, maybe 15 years ago at this point. A customer in the queue stuck his foot out and tripped him and he went clean flying. One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Probably wouldn’t get away with it today.
Apparently the sausage rolls and chicken strips are security tagged in Barnsley
My friend has worked for Gregg’s for years. Always been a regular occurrence for her
This is one of the most British headlines I’ve read in my life
There’s no consequences for it. I worked in a shop for a while and had someone steal hundreds of pounds worth of stuff regularly and asked us to stop him. So I did. He yelled and threatened to assault me and wait for me after work. Someone called the police. They shrugged and can’t do anything. And after that the manager decided that I’d never listen to her anymore and passed me over for promotion. Worth it huh? 🤷♂️ And you know the manager was getting shit for it too by the owner who was a sociopath. Fun world.
And it’s happening because people are poor.
This only works as long as the employee’s back isn’t turned. Then I don’t think it will work although I could be wrong.
This click bait, it’s all about insurers being shity on pay to injured staff.
