Any idea what AutoPedestres means? Is it the same as a hiking trail? Can I ride my bike on it?

  1. I think the initial idea was literally that you could drive (auto) to a walking (pédestre) tour.

  2. It means you park, you walk in a loop, you get back to your car. Some of them are good for bikes, but they’re primarily walking trails (at least the ones in the big book).

  3. There are also “TrainPedestres”, Hike and Rail, from CFL where the hiking trail starts near a train station.

  4. With a gravel bike you can usually do all of them. On a road bike certain parts on certain tours are not ridable.

  5. Yes, these are indeed hiking trails developed around 1960 by the government as automobiles are quite important in Luxembourg. “Pedestere” means “by foot” and “auto” means in this context that there is a parking lot for your automobile (car). Each trail is a round trip from a parking lot . They are not designed as bike trail despite on some cycling is possible if your bike is robust enough (gravel/trekking/mountain bike) as a lot of them use large forest roads but on others it may be difficult as some (from the complete catalog – not necessarly the ones listed by you) have stairs or go trough extremely narrow canyons that are as large as a handlebar of a bike (look for example on https://www.mullerthal.lu/de/fiche/walking/rundwanderroute-nommern-i for some photos).

In general when using hiking trails as bike trails please drive defensive and be kind to other users.
