  1. ***The Telegraph reports:***

The US this week quietly authorised the transfer of hundreds of 2,000lb bombs to [Israel](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/03/28/israel-using-facial-recognition-pinpoint-hamas-gaza/), despite growing concerns over a planned offensive on [Rafah](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/03/10/biden-warns-netanyahu-on-rafah-invasion-red-line/) and a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.

The new packages, worth billions of dollars, will include more than 1,800 MK84 2,000lb bombs and 500 MK82 500lb ones, according to reports by the Washington Post and Reuters.

The 2,000lb bombs are very rarely used by Western militaries anymore due to the scale of civilian casualties they can cause, but several investigations have shown Israel uses them extensively in Gaza.

The bombs have been linked to mass-casualty events, such as the Oct 31 bombing of [Jabalia](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/11/01/hamas-claims-seven-hostages-killed-israeli-strike/) refugee camp that killed more than100 people.

In a separate package last week, the US State Department also authorised the transfer of 25 F-35A fighter jets and engines worth roughly $2.5 billion (£1.98 billion), US officials told the Washington Post.

  2. When they do it ‘loudly’ does it make a specific sound?

  3. Israel is our ally and Hamas still holds hostages. Enough said.

  4. I mean… as a civilian how am I supposed to know what this means?? Is a 2000lb pound bomb a lot for bombs? Who knows.

Sounds like the title is just “Look at the big number! Isn’t that big???” not to mention it’s telegraph.co.uk

  5. How is it quietly when it’s in the top 3 stories on every major news site? Spectacular journalism and grammar from The Telegraph as per usual.

  6. These are guided munitions, to help reduce civilian casualties. Unless critics would prefer they use the unguided bombs they already have?

  7. When were these munitions appropriated by Congress? Is Biden even legally allowed to hold up their delivery?

  8. Ahh the old 2000 lb bomb used for “defense and national security” just like always.

  9. Why is everyone suddenly an ordnance expert when it comes to this war. So fucking what if it’s 2k

  10. US needs to hand them over loudly and quickly to Ukraine.

  11. Biden has been a true expert of playing up both sides of this conflict. It’s truly masterful.

  12. Netanyahu is terrible. The allegedly pro-Israel people on Reddit are some of the most narcissistic, tone-deaf people ever. They make Israel look awful.

But Gaza has been openly raining rockets on Israel for years. It sent thugs to go rape concertgoers to death.

If someone can prove that my understanding of what happened Oct. 7 didn’t happen, I’m open to seeing the evidence, but, as far as I can tell, the idea that the Hamas attackers systematically raped and killed people is generally correct.

The world should figure out a way to minimize civilian casualties, but the idea that we’d prevent Israel from going in and trying to catch the Gazans in charge of the rockets and murder rapists is absurd.

None of the rest of us seem to have a plan for dealing with the Gaza murder rapists, other than patting them on the head and giving them everything they want.

Palestine should be free. Palestinians should have all good things all human beings should have. But Israel should not be expected to let the Gaza murder rapist bosses be alive when Palestine becomes free.

I never saw Palestinians talking much about sexual assault by Israeli soldiers before Oct. 7. If anyone can verify that was a common problem, punish the Israeli perps and their commanders harshly.

But the fact that the Israeli occupation has been flawed or that some Israeli soldiers have done bad things does not justify letting people in charge of raping the uteruses out of harmless concertgoers go about their lives in Rafah. Either we round those guys up and deal with them or Israel does.

  13. I encourage people outside the middle east to look at Rafah on Google maps, to highlight that the city used to be an Egyptian city but was cut in half and demolished by the Egyptians so they could erect an even more extreme border wall to trap the Palestinians in Gaza.
