It’s almost like the degree just proves you can learn and then are taught for the job you’re doing
You can cure lots of ailments (Cancer, congestive heart failure, dropsy… ) with a pinch of Wilfred Owen and a dash of James Fenton, but “doctors” and “scientists” don’t want you to know because they’re all in on it.
I got down vote into hell when mentioning that they don’t need a real degree to get into this bullshit degree program …
Also, I believe that if you have a degree in Homeopathy or chiropractic you should be barred from working for NHS for you entire life.
It’d be interesting to see the full numbers, because as much as I dislike PA’s, every course I’ve seen requires some kind of degree in life sciences or equivalent experience.
The article seems to suggest the numbers are low and the applicants had a work history in the NHS, if that’s the case it might not be as awful as this article makes it sound, a degree is great but as a biomed graduate and NHS employee myself I’ve learned 80% of what I know on the job.
There are plenty of reasons to be upset with the PA situation, but lets not be ragebaited by the Torygraph and their dodgy statistics, yeah?
It’s looking more and more of a cluster fuck.
I saw one who simply delayed my diagnosis by getting the wrong x Ray . Eventually after more months of delay I saw a physio who got the right scans and urgent Rheumatology referral .
Was not impressed at all.
Homeopathy is a problem but the article lists plenty of legitimate degrees, even if they are BAs. How is that different to graduate medicine degrees? Plenty of those courses accept non stem degrees with relevant experience.
People here shitting on homoeopathy like if all medication isn’t a derivative from plants. I’m not saying that these things can cure you, but we do know eating healthy and certain plants do have benefits for your health – and isn’t prevention better than cure? Just saying nothing wrong with recommending someone eats a harb or something high in victim D over taking some sort of supplement that contains the same levels of vitamin.
On a complete anecdotal level I do feel better for drinking lemon tea when full of a cold. Or drinking cistanche tea for concentration. Aloe Vera is commonly used in skin care products, so just use the squashy stuff right on my face, and it works better than many different creams I’ve tried. Increasing my magnesium via eating seeds has hugely benefited my sleep pattern. Again, not saying it can cure ailments but it certainly has helped me.
All my family and I specifically ask for doctors not PAs for when having to go to the hospital. If you’ve not gone to med school, I’m not interested in hearing your medical advice! Might as well ask Chat GPT!
Government needs to start paying doctors ALOT better. Otherwise this is our future. The Australians are nicking all of our best people
This should be a massive scandal. Insist om being examined / treated by a doctor.
Resentful paramedic here. I occasionally find myself handing over patients to PAs when I get to hospital.
I don’t mind so much in triage, but if I’ve called ahead for a resus room, I simply have no need of these people. I was once told “our role is just to get a good clear A-E assessment for the doctors.” Like… I did that already. That’s my job, for which I’m band 6. What are these people contributing beyond mangling my handover in the repetition? Whilst being paid a band higher than me? FFS.
It’s a joke of a degree, they are not respected and many doctors and nurses are seeking to have them no longer practise as they dont have a designated licensed body
