  1. Slightly misleading headline; he’s concerned that Putin might strike F16s if operating from NATO airbases, thus implicating a third party in the conflict.

I think that one of the most interesting things about this war is how allied weapons factories, transport and infrastructure, intelligence agencies, command and control units, etc have been off limits whereas they’re legitimate targets that found themselves attacked in previous wars, but enjoy a degree of immunity presently to avoid escalation.

Ukraine isn’t going to be “operating” these out of NATO airbases, so you’d think the point would be moot BUT they *will* have to ferry from a final NATO base prior to combat deployment, and I’m sure the GRU is tracking each of these planes, ready to declare them legitimate targets the second they turn off their ADS-B and cross the border. If they shoot them down then, it’s not going to cause world war 3 (NATO won’t retaliate).

The real issue is the airbases, and how Putin spins it–he’s absolutely going to harp on how “nuclear capable F16s took off from Fetesti” or wherever. I would like to believe he wouldn’t be stupid enough to strike the bases, but he says this crap to justify getting a bigger military presence–and he wants the bigger military presence because he doesn’t want to stop in Ukraine, so who knows?

  2. “For Putin, it is important to constantly present the West as the major threat to the domestic audience. The West’s so-called nuclear threat is at the centre of the entire Russian narrative,”

Here Paasikivi explained exactly the essence of everything how Putin gets what he wants.

  3. Does this make drone factories and military targets in Iran and North Korea legitimate too ?

  4. He and his minions painted themselves into a corner of their own making. No sympathy for the devil.

  5. Ready to wipe this ruzzian cancer from the planet. Biggest killer strain of humanity, collectively even surpassing the Germans at this point
