  1. houses and homes should be for people. not as investments, seems p simple to me

  2. “OMG, a Spanish family used to live here, it’s so authentic” /s

  3. Give them what they want.

Words from the future: “Not like that!”

  4. I understand their intent, but shouldn’t they be targeting the owners of the homes that are choosing to rent to tourists instead of locals? Maybe pass legislation that there can only be a limited amount of tourist rentals? Or that the owners get fined for doing it more than one year out of three? I doubt that the tourist knows that everyone is pissed that the homeowner is renting to them. I don’t travel that much anymore, but I’d feel shitty if I showed up and it said tourist go home, I’d be likely to spend less money in that town.

  5. There’s a balance to be had, but tourists keep locals employed and living elsewhere.

  6. It seems clear that someone is pushing mass immigration. It’s happening in the Americas and in Africa.
No one stopped the wars from breaking out. We should’ve intervened diplomatically. Our governments don’t represent us anymore.

Edit – I was kinda high when I wrote that. But I don’t get why anyone would down vote this. I’m trying you stick up for freedom.

  7. Wow another situation that would be solved by letting people build market rate housing

  8. That is a thing I like about the Costa Del Sol, the property is all new and the Spanish are mostly not from there either.

  9. Spanish don’t want me to visit? Cool. I don’t care about bullfighting. And flamenco 💃? Meh. Madrid? Too hot. Adios.

  10. Anti-tourist sentiment is completely braindead. Economic activity is a net benefit. This is like being anti-immigration because “they took our jobs!”

  11. The answer is very high taxes on vacation rentals. Then use the tax to build affordable housing.

  12. I love it how details are left out, it’s virtually impossible for a foreigner to own an apartment block, compleax in Spain. It’s Spanish businesses, people who own and rent them out.

  13. The same people complained during Covid when there were no tourists and their economies were stagnating

  14. As all things, it’s a matter of balance and moderation. People have the right to live in tranquility in their homes, but people also have the right to make money out of their properties. Or do you want to abolish private business? Lots of people make good money out of renting, it is a right, and other people’s jealousy should not be the basis for lawmaking.
