He was for the Americans what Churchill was for the British. Racist, arrogant, crude, all around raging asshole, and the absolute right person at the right time for the job that needed doing. Whilst he may well have been right wanting to attack the Soviets, the rest of Europe was sick of a war that they had been fighting in their own house for far longer whilst America had enjoyed being untouched and profiting massively from the war.
