    Most Russians already know, even if they won’t admit it, that IS Khorosan is responsible for the attack. The Russian government is now announcing they won’t go after the perpetrators, won’t actually to keep Russians safe from another attack, but instead blame someone else in a cynical attempt to gin up support for the war they’d rather be fighting.

    That’s going to burn in a lot of Russians’ minds. The one thing that a corrupt, authoritarian regime like Putin’s try to sell is that only they can keep you safe from outside threats. That although you have no rights, and you’re being robbed blind every day, only we can protect you from the boogeymen coming to get us. The one thing this regime shouldn’t ever do is ignore a threat or an outrage against the people, or be seen to be doing so.
