  1. What a great country it was before communism. Let it prosper again in the EU and NATO!

  2. The white building in the first pic really stands out, as if it’s from the 70s

  3. And then communism & Russian shitty influence happened 😿

  4. Amazing recoloring, it’s like the photos were taken today!

  5. One thing I’ve noticed is that while older cities were cleaner, they still had issues with too little greenery and vast, open spaces of either concrete or stones with little in it.

This is also why I find cities like Florence underwhelming. While the alleys are narrow, it’s the same pathology.

  6. These colorized pictures are always nice to see. A great way to break the illusion of past being completely different from the present. After all, the people were still people even in the past and even tho we have all sorts of different new things compared to then.

I do wonder tho, whatever happened to all those fancy uniforms like the one in the last picture? I find the old timey looking uniforms are usually only visible in parades these days

  7. This looks so much like my hometown Chernivtsy (or in Romanian transcription – Chernovitz).

I almost thought the first picture is the theater we have.

  8. This is the first time I’ve seen a colorized old photo that feels this authentically *real*. Like I could be there right now this is what I’d see

  9. “In câmpia Dunării, cu câtiva ani înaintea celui de-al doilea război mondial, se pare că timpul avea cu oamenii nesfârșită răbdare…”

  10. For people asking how much Bucharest has changed: pic 1-6 are part of Central Bucharest and the buildings are all there and look the same today. 7 (Piata Unirii) was destroyed by Ceausescu, 8 still has the building in the back (Foisorul de foc) but the rest has changed, 9 I don’t know where is located, 10 is almost the same but the building on the left (The National Theatre) was destroyed during ww2 and never rebuilt, 11 Sturza Palace(?) was destroyed in 1946 , 12 place not identified, 13-14 Romas, 15 Uranus area destroyed by Ceausescu, 16 -17 -18 locations not identified, 19 Dambovita river, still the same view.

  11. This somehow looks infinitely more charming than modern Bucharest

  12. This is before the Russian plague had came to our land

  13. It’s like I’m there, hard to believe these are 100 years old until you see the dress. It’s amazing how colourisation makes it so relatable

  14. I was in Bucharest last October and stayed in the Hotel Capitol in the second photo. It was built in 1901.
