Personally, I feel he is a better shot stopper than Eddie but his footwork still needs working upon and our playing style is heavily reliant on playing out from the back so it's 50-50 for me.

What do others think?

  1. Too slow to get us out from the back, inviting unnecessary pressure and mistakes

  2. No, good distribution is more valuable to us than good shot stopping

  3. How bad was Reyes though, his long balls were absolutely shit.

  4. Nope. Eddie essentially serves as an additional outfield player and is key to how we play. I also don’t think there’s that much of a difference between them in terms of shot stopping – Eddie sometimes makes errors but it’s kinda a vice you accept as a result of your goalkeeper often acting as a centre-back.

Ortega is a fantastic keeper though, fully adore him as a second choice.

  5. I feel he commands his area better… I feel more comfortable with him during 1v1’s, corners, and being a better judge of coming off his line, but I much prefer Edersons distribution.

  6. We have bigger problems than debating Ederson’s position. Eddy is the least of our problems right now

  7. Ederson is well experienced for City. Seeing todays match, Ortega was kinda slow & looked confused during the goal kicks. Ederson would have done much better and faster.

  8. As a normal GK for most teams he’s an easy pick, but because it’s pep and he needs everyone to do things a certain way nope.

  9. There’s a possibility, but I don’t think he will.

It’s wild to think that we have Edersons elite distribution and Ortegas great shot stopping mixed into 1 keeper in Scott Carson and he’s not playing, is Pep stupid?!!

  10. Ortega is class. Ederson is ICE COLD. Ederson any given day. His expressionless face and composure is priceless lol.

  11. If a game *SPECIFICALLY* calls for a better shot-stopper, I would consider starting Ortega.

  12. Bring back his adult braces and Ederson will return to his Elite level

  13. Ederson is way better but ortega is clear of that crappy Zack Steffen

  14. I’m with you. He doesn’t provide the same kind of build up threat. He’s no slouch and probably second best keeper with his feet in the league (think he’s better than Allison) but Eddie has some much more range and deception.

Also think He’s pushed Eddie to be a much better shot stopper, so I lean Eddie

  15. A better shot stopper? Did you watch the champions league final FFS? Ederson is so insanely disrespected by everyone. He literally won us the champions league and you’re trying to say Ortega could take his position. Like seriously fuck off

  16. Ederson is a very good shot stopper but he is FAR better with the ball at his feet. If city expect to play out of the back regularly and or pass back to the keeper vs high press regularly then ederson certainly brings more to the table.

  17. The reason Ederson got the job is *because* of his footwork. He is not losing the job to someone with worse footwork than him. Besides, Ederson is a solid keeper between the sticks. Not worth the headache

  18. No, not even close.

I like Ortega, but the distribution is noticeably worse, he lacks the composure that Ederson has, and there’s this weird myth that he’s lightyears ahead as a shot stopper which is untrue.

Hes a great GK and should probably be starting somewhere. It’s just the starter we have is better.
