Government puts bees at risk due to harmful pesticide

  1. There’s a lot of hysteria about bee’s dying out, largely because of a combination of the internet echo chamber effect and some misunderstanding of key findings.

The facts are that the IPBES lists various wild pollinators as under threat from extinction – various reasons, the most common one being loss of habitat. Insecticides may also play a part as well as competition from honey bees.

Honey bees themselves however are not remotely at risk – They are a managed resource, i.e. if an area wants more of them, they simply increase the number of hives. The global population is only going in one direction and that is upwards.

TLDR – Some wild bees are endangered. Honey bees are doing just fine.
