Charged 15% for a restaurant’s brand? First time seeing this. Not a service charge, and they expect a tip as well.

  1. Haha yeah, that’s coming straight off anyways, and you can forget the tip too. Take it out of all the other brand charges that all the other people were too embarrassed to ask to be removed from their bills.

  2. Between that and surge pricing being trialed by some places it’s going to stop people eating out. Then restaurants will blame the customers for failing to patronise their establishment

  3. It’s discretionary, you don’t have to pay it. Still crazy though wtf.

  4. Is that not just what they’re calling their service charge though? Like trying to be trendy or whatever?

  5. If it’s discretionary it shouldn’t be included in the biggest boldest “total” number. What is it even for, anyway?

    What a scam!

  6. Well, that’s me paying £88.54

And 1/3 of a bottle of wine for more than a bottle. Ow.

  7. You should add a discretionary discount. About 25% seems reasonable.

  8. I would have hand written a receipt for my discretionary eating and drinking charge and made it £13.28 then handed it to them as I went to pay.

  9. £8 for a bottle of beer, not even a pint… London is mad!

  10. I’ve been to Ping Pong several times, not that location but a few of the others, and I don’t recall ever seeing this. Maybe it’s new or they rebranded the service charge.

Either way, this is a massive turn off.

  11. Literally says on the menu, “A discretionary management fee of 15% is added to your bill. This fee covers the costs associated with managing and supporting the restaurants, as well as maintaining the brand experience to our company standards.”
