Ulster University: LGBT Pride ‘problematic’ for Qatar campus

1. “Prof Odette Hutchinson said that while the university should celebrate Pride, it needs to be “cognisant of different cultural expectations”.

   These different cultural expectations do not belong here, this is a western country where being LGBT is legal. If they don’t like it they can go back to the Middle East

2. It’s always interesting how people love celebrating and advocating for equality when it’s easy but are immediately out when it’s hard. It would be sobering to know that if you went back in time you would be one of the bad guys because you are spineless.

3. Surely they knew this when setting up the campus there?

4. So Qatar isn’t all for celebrating LBGT Pride events. This can’t be news to anyone surely. Why would Ulster University set up a campus in Qatar??? They would have known about the cultural issues.

   Are the days long gone where a University tends to have their campus in and around the local area? Stop building them in countries that despise many of the students you want to welcome.

5. Cut off the partnership with the Qatari campus if the same communications cannot be made across all sites.

7. They can’t build a proper campus in Derry but they are opening one in Quatar. Are you serious?

8. Tbh I’ve read this whole article and I don’t see what’s “highly problematic”? Apart from the anti-LGBT stuff obviously.
