The second world war was fuelled by imperial fantasies

  1. They weren’t fantasies.

Britain, france, spain, portugal, netherlands, belgium, ussr/russia, china, usa, ottomans all got rich and powerful from overseas or overland empires.

Germany, Italy and Japan were newly united or modernized countries who wanted some of that action.

  2. If we don’t work to ensure equality among continents and ethnic/ancestry groups worldwide the tragedies of imperialism – up to and including the Holocaust of Jews, Serbs, and Romany – stand a risk of reoccurring.

  3. Paywall, also weren’t most wars fuelled by expansionist or imperial desires and fantasies, WW2 was such a complex interactions of Empires, Ideologies, Economies, Revanchism, Religion, National Identity, and Irredentism. I think boiling down something like WW2 to Imperial Fantasies is simplifying history.
