I'm still not sure whether I can bring a carry-on or not with superlight fares in Europe. I guess I do since carry-ons couldn't be selected during the booking process… Finnair website is really not clear in this case. The screenshots are from the same mail: in one place it tells one thing, in another it's the opposite. I'll try to call Finnair tomorrow, but does anyone have any idea how it works?

  1. You have the superlight ticket which means you can take your tiny bag and put it under the seat. This ticket doesn’t allow larger carry-on bags (and if it did the combined weight would be 8kg). I agree things are confusing (I think this is the point so they can charge you extra, maybe I’m being cynical here, but Finnair’s economy product is one of the worst)

After flying with them a lot recently I have noticed a lot of people getting very confused and worried about what they can and can’t take. A few cabin crew have stated that the rules just make their job more difficult and passengers extra stressed.

I used to take a small rucksack which easily fits under the seat and to be honest I have no idea if it fulfills the superlight rules or not. I guess it depends on how much you squeeze it.

I’ve seen one lady being asked to pay for her small handbag in addition to her laptop bag – she tucked it into the laptop bag (which was fine) then immediately took it out again….

  2. They’re trash. I once bought luggage because it said it wasn’t included but then in the airport when printing the tags I could select two, so I lost the money (they didn’t want to return). At that point I wondered why Finnair and not Ryanair.

  3. I was flying from Helsinki to Vaasa after flying from Houston, I got the cheap ticket, a guy in front of me had a tiny carry on and the desk agent was telling him he couldn’t carry it on, they argued for 5 minutes, she scanned my ticket and told me to go, didn’t even notice I had a suitcase and backpack

  4. American Airlines lost my bags 2 times going to Finland, Houston to Dallas on that trash airline, Finnair had to deliver to the residence I was staying at, last time it took 4 days to get my luggage
