They probably didn’t realize because it was a large group call, with the boy scouts, the best doctors, top lawyers and scholars, gold star families, leaders from the taliban, the president of the virgin islands, and he also had a bunch of large burly men with him in person with tears streaming down their faces, and everyone was calling him ‘sir’.

  13. Just once I’d like to see the media not let go of a Trump lie. I know the lies come by the dozens, every day, and it’s hard to keep up or keep focus. But this is one of the most odious, both for the implicit danger in exploiting fears of immigrants and for the banality in the simplicity with which it’s disproven. Every interview, every public appearance, journalists and others should make this the first, and until it’s answered, the only question – Mr Trump, you said you spoke to the family, they said you didn’t. Do you still say you spoke to them? Do you have proof? What do you think of the fact that they say you didn’t speak to them, are they liars? Are you imagining conversations? Do you have proof you spoke to them? Where was it? What number did you call, which one of your staff made the connection?

    He’ll lie at first, say they’re mistaken, the sister is corrupt, a pawn of the Dems. But if journalists don’t let it go, they make it the only thing he can talk about. Follow up questions, new angles, new witnesses, corroboration by others of the exposure of the original lie. Just like any other politician is held to account, often over much less. No traction for anything else he says until we collectively resolve this one lie. Distraction with some weird rant or insult or threat against someone for a totally different reason? Nope, no coverage, not until we get to the bottom of this simple question, did you or did you not speak to this person who says you didn’t but you said you did.
