  1. Data for this map comes from [Eurostat](https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/databrowser/view/yth_empl_110__custom_10395053/default/table?lang=en). The data includes students, but only if they are available for work and actively seeking work. That means that students that don’t have a job and are not looking for one, are not included in these numbers.

On this map we can see the percentage of people aged 15 to 29 that are unemployed. As we can see, the youth unemployment is higher the further south we go.

Spain, Italy and Greece have some of the highest youth unemployment rates in Europe. In Sardinia & Sicily (32.4%) and Central Greece (31.3%) it’s even over 30%.

The lowest youth unemployment rate is in Bavaria in Germany, where only 3.5% of young people are unemployed.

  2. Let’s gooo 🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻economy? I don’t know her🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸

  3. I understand the calculations and the reasoning behind the numbers but 15-29 is such an odd range. A 29 yo could be an experienced professional already while a 15 yo is literally a child.

  4. Belgium once again being the combination of Southern and Western Europe never fails to be funny

  5. But why is youth unemployment so high in the south. Why are there no jobs there?

  6. Well… most EU member states gave everything to the elderly for votes.

Youth programs & education budgets have been kept tight for austerity reasons, while pensions, healthcare and welfare (which are mostly used by the elderly) have been expanded with high or higher taxes which hamper economic growth.

Then they ask why the young don’t want to have children anymore or why they are voting for for-right populists…

  7. Italy’s youth unemployment is ridiculous. Why isn’t Meloni doing something about it?

  8. So when did the UK leave Europe. Was there a vote? Are we part of a different content now, and if so do we have a choice. I choose Oceania. The weather is better than Europe

  9. I would be careful with the numbers from germany. Unemployed are only people who are looking for a job and who are not part of any classes.

We have a system where unemployed can be forced into classes that help them write application letters. We even have specialized schools for young people who did not find a job. They have some unpaid internships, etc.

Everybody that is in these kind of classes is not in a job, does not make their own money and is not part of the work force. But they are not mentioned in our statistics as unemployed. This was a trick by our government to make the statistics look better when unemployment rates were really high in the 2000’s.

  10. Didn’t expect Norway with its sovereign wealth fund. Looks like they are doing something right.

  11. Southern spain is not a region, whats seen as darker in the map are murcia and andalucia

  12. So it follows temperature in europe? Hot and sunny= lazy in the sun?

  13. To add, in the Netherlands, for long there has been a lower minimum wage for people up to 23 years old. Now the ‘normal’ minimum wage is from 21. So a 15 year old still has a minimum wage of €3,98 an hour.

  14. This should not include people under the age of 18. As simple as that. Students are not workers and every EU country has programmes to support students usually.
