This is the ads against the [initiative to reduce tobacco ads](https://www.interdiction-publicite-non.ch/). I found it quite hilarious, I guess it’s harder and harder to be pro tobacco those days and they had to really dig far into their ideas this time.
As a non swiss citizen:
How are people even able to understand all those bills without spending a shit ton of time informing themselves? The ads seem to be absolutely stupid or even close to lying?
Are there no rules on what is allowed and what not?
Before seeing this first hand I held a quiet positive view on direct democracy – now I’m not so sure anymore.
Hahah they love eating sausage in the industry of tobacco. Fuck Philip Morris, vote yes.
“TERRIBLE, SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHIL…TOBACCO INDUSTRY!”
its a logical fallacy and rather dumb.
that being said, i will still PROBABLY vote no on the bill, not because i think this will happen. but based on the fact that we forbid too ourselves too much in the last couple of years and also i think tabacco ads bring at least some cash into the economy.
Also i have not yet the booklet or did a deep dive into the exact cost (so this assumption might be wrong), i think there is a high chance smokers are a net positive to the cash our health insurrance has, given they die a lot earlier than non-smokers and pay an additional tax for they smoking habit (this could be not true, because cancer treatment costs a lot, but then again, grow old enough and you might get cancer anyway). now an even higher tax for smoking, that is something i could get behind.
I mean the question raised here is: do we want to ban ads for everything that is unhealthy?
I mean it’s out of the question that tobacco is unhealthy but so is processed meat (ie. Cervelat) obviously to a lesser degree, but a difference in degree is not a difference in kind. Should we ban advertising for a product solely on the grounds that said product is unhealthy? Surely not, that is ridiculous.
Banning the product is another question – banning all tobacco products on the grounds of their health risks makes sense (See New Zealand). Banning advertising for a unhealthy, but perfectly legal, product goes against any liberal idea Switzerland stands for.
It’s insulting that somone is thinking I will fall for this shit.
Im an ex smoker. I started like pretty much everyone did: Peer pressure. The only thing tobacco commercials influenced me in was the choice of cigarettes (Camel, because of Joe Camel, which was already not a thing anymore when I started), but not smoking itself.
This ad prohibition will do little to nothing. And you know how young people rationalize when something is forbidden, or shrouded in mystery.
Edit: Thar being said, the no campaign is hilaruously terrible.
It’s still quite confusing to me.
I’m not sure which is worse for your health, cigarettes or unspecified processed meat. Maybe safer to ban both. 😀
Kidding of course and as an ex-smoker who saw the light I fully support the banning of cigarette ads for all of the damage that cigarettes cause to current and future generations. It’s one of society’s stupid habits that needs to be broken for the good of everyone except the tobacco companies who have profited from our misery for too long.
I laughed when I saw this. Basically, when there is no argument you come up with a stupid one.
It truly is a stupid false equivalence argument. No one is coming for your sausages.
The comparison with cervelat may be over the top, but a comparison with alcohol wouldn’t be. Should we ban alcohol ads? Most arguments against tobacco equally apply to alcohol. And 30 years ago people would have found the idea of banning tobacco ads equally unlikely.
“Heute Tabak – Morgen Weisswein?” is good too since less ads for booze would also be something I’m in favour of.
They did the same ad with Rüeblichueche in Aargau.
It‘s SVP… not much mental capacity left for gymnastics on their side.
sshdhdhjf i saw this and i was like,, i want whatever they’re smoking
Considering both things are unhealthy to varying degrees I wouldn’t really consider it mental gymnastics, but just a bad slippery slope fallacy.
Not to mention that the ban of tobacco ads will not remove the ability to purchase tobacco, so personally I wouldn’t even see that much bad in a ban of cervelat ads (It would be pointless and a waste of resources, but not bad really.)
Not really.
It’s so ridiculous that when I saw that poster for the first time, I went home and voted yes.
Even better are the people claiming that ads targeting the youth do not work, so a ban would change nothing.
Yeah right, that‘s why they spend millions for nothing, surely without any market research.
I live in switzerland and i have never seen a tabacco ad…and as a smoker i think we should ban it most of the ppl smoke because of parents or friends anyways. And obviously its bad for ur health. So yeah ban it.
Can someone translate this?
Today tobacco, tomorrow medicines.
TBH, I don’t know when was the last time I saw a tobacco ad. But these are ridiculous. I agree, it’s hard to be pro-tobacco nowdays
Why not?
I wouldn’t mind if there were no more advertisements for any products. It’s totally utopian, I know that. But just imagine for a second a society without any advertising.
Just for the cost inplications that unhealthiness has on us, it’s funny how anyone could defend tobacco, especially since it’s addictive. You should be free to choose to smoke if you like, but you shouldn’t be encouraged to do so.
I saw that one but with wine instead of cervelat, three weeks ago. Rarely I’ve been convinced so fast to vote the opposite of a poster.
this is one of the stupidest political ad campaign I’ve seen. only topped by their attempt to say ehe für alle would traumatise children or whatever it was
I wouldn’t mind have no ads for unhealthy food either.
Well, the entire comment section jumping on the “lets ban advertisement for …(insert unhealthy item here) pretty much undermines your critique and proofs their point.
The law text change mentions tabaco in like 1 sentence of ~6.
The rest is some stuff about Cultural and Political integration of Children and Youth…what?!
And somthing about diseases. Wtf
Has nothing to do with the title
i laughed out loud when I first saw it
Not to be the devil’s advocate it’s pretty hard to make an add fo vote against tobacco advertising ban…
Like *our expectations were low but holy shit*
it’s a ridiculous ad indeed, one of many current counterproductive political ads.
that said, if it said any of these it would look differently:
“heute tabak, morgen zucker”
“heute tabak, morgen schaumwein”
“heute tabak, morgen fast food”
“heute tabak, morgen non-bio”
“heute tabak, morgen tv”
“heute tabak, morgen töff”
“heute tabak, morgen autos”
the point the ad is making is that if politicians start forbidding everything they do not agree with, then we’re gonna be in big trouble. it makes that point very poorly, but maybe it’s also a self-depricating joke, due to cervelats being some of the worst quality meats that you can buy in swiss supermarkets and they know it. maybe a more precise wording of the ad couldve been these two
“heute tabak, morgen Nitritpökelsalz”
“heute tabak, morgen Glutamat”
I really enjoy how they change the sausage depending on the region. In Graubünden (at lease in the Engadin) it’s “Salsiz”.
Let’s use reverse psychology:
Heute Tabak, morgen Kokain?! Werbeverbot JA!
typical right party move… today free healthcare, tomorrow free education…
Dümmer gahts nümmer
One of the dumbest udc campaign I saw, the lobbyist didn’t have a lot of time to think
It would sure be nice to be subjected to less second hand smoking.
Just saw it yesterday at a team stop and I laughed for the emphasized drama

There are also short videos online for each bill:
