I think the key things to remember about biden are his age making it impossible for him to recognize that this is not just another round but an all new situation, and his track record of making up lies to fit reality to his needs on the spot. plus he revealed his lack of seriousness and degree of dehumanization when about tge al ahli hospital parking lot explosion he said "it's looking like that was done by the other team" – it really feels like spectator sports to him, as it does for many other people (btw. bonus freudian slip: his calling sisi the president of mexico was due to feeling like i-country is america, so the poorer and less white country bordering its south is…??).

    the most directly comparable situations were:
    1) how (among a long pattern of reality rejection) he said seven days before the fall of kabul that a t-team takeover of the country was "not inevitable", and promised that there would be no helicopter evacuation of the embassy.
    2) how he falsely clqimed at least four definitive times over the course of about a year befote they got him to stop that america has made a commitment to defend taiwan aginst china. each time of course all of his responsible subordinates "clarified" that this is in no way true becauae it neither is an accurate reading of the old policy nor is biden announcing a change in policy, and that the actual policy remains the same it's been since the 70s or 80s (the only commitment in case of a chinese attack is to send defensive weapons, and attacks on or capture of the kinmen and matsu islands do not count). what was really annoying was how all the media, and I mean ALL, reported it wrong, as if it wasn't obvious that the side to believe were the laws and treaties and the pencilpushers issuing prepared specific statements, rather than impulsive proclamations by joe biden who is infamous for gaffes and particularly for lying through exaggetations that make him seem more impressive.
