Great. The whole community has to push against crime
I’m from Aarhus north of there never been to Christiania before but I heard the place is a great example why anarchy ain’t working
The “No Photo” sign is clearly malfunctioning
In light of the developments in Germany this is pointless, or are they preparing for a legalisation as well?
We had a really similar place in Ljubljana, Slovenia called Metelkova. The almost exact same thing happened, was also an I would call it ‘alternative’ place and was a popular hangout/meet spot for friday night. A few years ago there was a string of crime related to the area, gangs moved in, so people stopped going there, as it was now full of heavy drug abusers and I will say just ‘shady people’.
Except we didn’t really remove the street, we just stopped going there and it’s just a shell of what it used to be.
Time will tell if it has any effect, or if the pushers will be content with putting their stalls in a muddy hole.
We have a similar street in Ljubljana, wouldn’t hurt if we had it removed.
Don’t worry guys! The danish Government will never regulate Cannabis!!!!!
Our government just made it twice as illegal to be in possesion of cannabis and other drugs in some areas. So fine is from 300 Euro to now 600 Euro. The government gave the police the ability to create “high risk zone” and in these zones possesion, consuming or selling cannabis and other drugs is punished twice as hard and if you are caught twice in such a zone you get a mandetory 2-4 weeks in prison. So basically we now imprison high schoolers who wanna smoke weed after class. Furthermore, in Denmark we punish the sale of cannabis and other drugs of prison up to 16 years, so if you are caught in such a zone the police can set up overnight you could face 32 years in prison if the circumstances would allow it 🙂 (In practice we have hard limit of 20 years in prison if it is not “life in prison”) So you could murder and rape someone and maybe get 14 years in prison or life in prison (life is an average of 13-15 years before probation is granted).
And just 1 hour south Germany just legalized cannabis xD
The danish government would prefer civil war and mass destruction than to regulate cannabis 😛
Bonus info: Our prisons is overcrowded by so much and prison staff quitting is all time high and it is basically impossible to recruit new, low pay, mentally hard job and so on. It takes over 2 years to get a case processed at our court systems and last year the courts in denmark handed our over 2000 years of prison time for the sale of narcotics where the majority was cannabis related. These cases take a large portion of the courts time and overall increases the wait time for everyone who need something processed at our court system.
FN also critized our court system for the long wait time and also that we seem to put people in custody appending trail for just about everything and in about 10% of the time they are either acquitted or not guilty and some also end up sitting in custody in isolation for longer than their prison sentence even is due to the police must focus on people who sell cannabis xD
Finally it was full of junkies and shady people patrolling the area and telling pedestrians what to do in an aggressive manner. Worst bit of my trip to Copenhagen
Haha, pusher street, because he is pushing a wheelbarrow? Nice pun.
Clean that r/UrbanHell, Denmark.
Why no photo? Got something to hide, Christiania?
About time. The whole of Christiania is a stain, that should never have come to be
Soo, there not removing ya man with the wheelbarrow.
Christiania was The best & easist place to get weed i Copenhagen, Denmark. Not legally, but openly. It was chill, but i little rough
Noo wayy 🙁 my dad used to live there across from as expact, as a dutch stoner this waa heaven
Another failed Utopia
when I went there in 1996 it had 100 hashish and gras tables
I was there last week and walked thru the Pusher street too, plenty of shady individuals so I left immediately. Christiania as a whole is not that worth visiting.
Nasty place
I’ve been there a few times and never had a problem. Enjoyed my time hanging out and smoking.
My boyfriend was killed on those bricks, so this brings me a little peace
RTX on
It says NO PICTURES!
It makes me smile thinking I lived inside a pusher enclave for 2 years (not anymore) and it was really hard living in such an area especially solo. The gangsters will do anything to get rid of:
– artists who take photos even if artistic photos of the pusher area
– anyone who is not either pusher or buyer is a bad person for them
– gangs of organized criminals (pushers usually belong to a larger network) will spread in an area and stand in corners all day waiting for passing customers. For me the customers are the culprits, they sustain the presence of criminals. Where I lived they sold low quality heroine (hard drugs but synthetic-> cheaper) and the users ended up sometimes in hospital or in the streets without their senses forcing us to call an ambulance.
– when I first moved into this red light district/pusher area I thought i can be myself (i take lots of photos for Google Maps and Wikicommons of embadoned buildings) but they got angry at me for merely taking photos NOT of the pushers but the buildings that are derelict for wikipedia, and they often threatened me by trying to snatch my smartphone. Sadly it was the clients of drug sale who tried to do that but with a smile and they are usually ‘friends’ with the pushers.
– i dont judge ppl who take marijuana or whatever for recreational use and self-control themselves. I just felt im theratened by the too many pushers in a small area and the constant trade of drug substances with the local police turning a blind eye very conveniently. I even got paranoid that the police is also a buyer:/ Police did NOTHING and the area even got gang related shootings and sometimes the gangsters shot at communal kitchens (projects to feed the homeless got shot by gangster who didnt want any OTHER activity in their area than drug sales and use and also, its a red light district).
So although in the beginning I was ”tolerant” and I thought I can co-exist with drug sellers and human sex trafficking if i just kept to myself and go on as normal, they did focus on me (cause I was taking photos of derelict and neoclassicla buildings and was walking around with a camera or smartphone pointed… and pushers seem to loathe photographers). I can see a ‘no camera’ sign on that photo you uploaded, was that placed by the locals or the pushers? I know the pushers hate photography like nothing else.
Danish Municipality – Let’s further [illegalize](https://www.oed.com/dictionary/illegalize_v?tl=true) cannabis because it contains the word “drug” when categorized, cause if you weren’t aware, that’s how you lower crime rates, you silly non-democratic citizens; and, of course, we can’t overlook that sweet bonus of being belt fed propaganda.
🥺 👉👈
Im not aware of Christiania’s history, but when I visited one year ago, the whole thing seemed to be about weed. Weed stands everywhere, weed T-shirts being sold with POS setup, people randomly smoking weed. It felt such a cheap tourist attraction that cringed the shit out of me. I hope the changes are for the better cause this is nothing remotely close to anarchism in my book.
