I have been noticing in polls that the 50-65 crowd (approximately Generation X, but a bit earlier) are most supportive of Donald Trump. Anyone have any idea why that could be?
Boomers are entering their peak die off period and Red State Boomers are leading the charge. Liberal Boomers are more likely to be healthier because they eat better, have access to better health care, and don’t fall for Republican Anti-vaxx lies. They are also more likely to be better educated which is an existential threat to conservatism.

Not a surprise to me, they’ve been in politics for years. A lot of them understand how divided the country is and the part they played in doing so. A lot of them will put policy aside to make sure America returns to some normalcy.

Thankfully my Democrat Boomer parents are very healthy. My mom got her annual mammogram and they were able to find early stages of breast cancer which allowed her to get an experimental cancer treatment. it was just one precisiion radiation blast that concentrated essentially 10 to 12 radiation treatments into one shot. The tumor shrunk 88% and surgery removed the rest. Follow up appointments showed no cancer since. Both walk every day a couple of miles a day. They take care of their grandson when my brother and SIL go to work and they hate Trump and the Republicans. Their parents lived to old ages (grandfather (my grandfather (mom’s dad) is almost 92 and my grandmother who sadly died of COVID (dad’s mom ) lived to 96. They enjoy their retirement and will always vote Democrat until they die.
Well it’s because they know the GOP wants to increase retirement and cut Medicare and Social Security right as they approach it

Gen Z CONSERVATIVES tend to respond to polls because they are rabid politically. But the vast majority, like my daughter and her friends, are horrified at the gender politics and LGBTQ politics of the right wing. They are WAY more savvy and tend to not respond to polls because they have more important things to do…like working, going to class, and listening to the new Taylor Swift album that comes out Thursday…(ask me how I know…I have a 20 year old daughter, THAT is how I know.)
I don’t believe ANY polls. I think that most are skewed at least 5 points in Trump’s favor and the GOP is going to use that bias to argue for election fraud, which so far, has been proven to be a Republican strategy…between fake votes, cutting people off the rolls, making harder to vote in general, and ballsy electoral district shenanigans through gerrymandering and running fake Democratic candidates for fun and profit.

I’ve been noticing this, I think we’re in for an election that reshapes how we have to look at voting blocs because something funny is happening. There are exceptions duh but these are broad demographics so bear with me, usually there’s a gap generation between parents and children. So it creates a weird lil stagger. A big part of why people tend to refine political beliefs around early adulthood is that’s when you first start to build real bonds with that gap generation. Your team lead or manager on the job, older friend you trust to clue you in on stuff, etc.They’ll treat you like an adult before your parents are ready to.
What we seem to have right now is an era where it’s the two main parent/child groups against each other. Milennials aren’t getting more conservative as they age, but their Boomer parents are either feeling good about staying a liberal course or getting tired of fighting about Trump because they’re embarrassed and want to see the grandkids. That’s who Trump could cross a line with. We have a world where even if they don’t know it, a fair few Zoomer sons and Gen X fathers are mainlining the same Joe Rogan/Andrew Tate universe. Progressive Zoomers haven’t had their big time of having to learn the hard way you vote for the election in front of you not the one you want and honestly some of the young crowd today have fair gripes with left-leaning politics that aren’t going addressed. Milennials haven’t been immune to things like using advocacy groups as a social club.
It’s a perfect storm that may or may not last beyond this one election, but it’s interesting how this divide is shaping up. Because those two parent/child groups kinda seem like they’re in different worlds.

I’m a bit surprised if it’s cut through this much but the GOP absolutely fucked the the initial budget negotiations in 2023. Maybe they have taken more damage than assumed over it and.
Regardless of our age or generation, it would behoove all of us to work at educating our friends, family, peers, coworkers, etc to the truth. Some of them are a lost cause, so don’t waste your breath, but for the ones who are just a little ignorant, a little enlightenment can be a game changer. And some are already liberal but just a little ignorant of other people’s life experiences (like my liberal family in Example 1).
Example 1: when the Me Too Movement started up, I realized that there were a lot of things that I as a woman experienced, that my husband and sons have not and I needed to educate them. I sat them down and explained how unsafe women & girls feel most of the time. I gave them personal examples as well as anecdotal (that survey women took about a curfew for men was especially helpful). They had no clue that we have to be as careful as we do and are totally on board now. A lot of decent men could benefit from this kind of discussion.
Example 2: I was talking to a much younger coworker and mentioned that a friend’s pronouns are they/them. My coworker started complaining because she was sure that someone with alternative pronouns would get mad if she used the wrong one. I finally convinced her by explaining that those people would be thrilled if you make the effort and slipups are okay as long as your intentions are good.
Example 3: this is not exactly political but still works against ignorance. When I’ve talked to someone who’s against (but not vehemently against) the COVID vaccine, I’ve suggested that they take a baby aspirin every day. I explained that COVID causes blood clots and at the beginning of the pandemic young people were stroking out. Both people I mentioned this to assumed I meant that the vaccine caused the blood clots (sigh) so I reiterated that it was the VIRUS that did so (well before the vaccine for Gods sake!) and neither argued after that, so fingers crossed.
If anyone has other examples like this, please list them. It’s going to take everyone and everything to wipe out the Drumpf plague.

My 74 year old highly religious mom is a two time trump voter. I tried initiating conversation about trump, but she says she really doesn’t pay very much attention to what he says or does. I told her she needs to pay attention because he’s gone off the deep end.
