  6. i don’t think 1.8b is going to do much to push AI research and startups.

    if he wanted to push AI research, he could’ve started by creating regulations, and being one of the first few leaders who started regulation for artificial intelligence. regulations mean streamlined business procedures and research methods, and that means less overhead invested in figuring out what is legal and making cuanges after the product is already semi functional.

    and best part, it would be cheaper, and will make global impact since countries are waiting for someone else to push it.

  11. My city’s wastewater plant went over budget by 3.5 Billion (initial cost 550M). 1.8B feels like nothing. I am numb to inefficient government spending. This will pay for 3 computers and 2 desk chairs.

    Companies that can leverage AI/ML are doing so already. YOu dont create companies that create AI, you create companies that can leverage AI/ML as part of its technology approaches to their business model.

Ironic considering that Hinton and 6 other researchers (these guys were the only researchers in the world left who were still working on neural networks), way back in the 1980’s figured that neural networks instead of expert systems were the way to and they were based at the university of Toronto!!!
