I have a holiday booked to the Greek islands this summer and I was wondering what the COVID rules are, specifically relating to masks.
The U.K. foreign travel site indicates masks are compulsory in both indoor and outdoor settings. Wearing a mask at the beach or pool doesn’t sound very enjoyable.
I’ve had a look on the Greek ministry of health website and there doesn’t seem to be much information confirming or denying.
Can anyone enlighten me? Do you think any rule changes are on the horizon?
Thanks.

For now masks are mandatory for most places here, people are urged to wear masks outdoors as well.
Pretty sure you can go to the beach without the mask though. It’s not like anyone will report you or anything. Oh and don’t expect much from our health ministry it’s so useless it’s almost as if it doesn’t exist at this point.
But our islands our beautiful and you will have the time of your life anyway so have fun and take care!
At the time of this post masks are mandatory everywhere. By the letter of the law, even when you are alone in the middle of a forest.
In practice about half the people even in cities don’t wear them outside, and it’s not really applied by police, but there is always a small chance that a cop has to fill a quota for fines, or is power tripping. Even smaller chance, pretty much non existent, for a tourist.
This specific clown rule is set to expire in 1-2 weeks, but you never know of course.
All these measures will be lifted around May. No Greek government would force tourist to wear masks during summer.
For now, the covid measures are “tight” all over Greece.
Around mid to late March , I’m almost certain almost all measures, if not all, will be lifted as a means to encourage tourists from around the world to start booking their vacation dates.
The measures will stay lifted for the rest of summer, up until October if not gone once and for all .
But it’s easy to come in the country even now, as long as you’re ok to wear your mask indoors and optionally outdoors.
My friend it’s too soon to tell. Covid guidelines and mandates change every 2 weeks ( true story). Pretty sure no one will care if you dont wear a mask at the beach or pool as long as you’re keeping distances.
Make sure you are vaccinated because it will be difficult to enter many establishments without a covid vaccine certificate. A certificate of infection from covid or daily rapid testing aren’t the best options because the first one is valid for 3 months and the latter is honestly impractical.
