Ah takes me back. I remember sending my postal order off to join the Dennis The Menace fan club. Must have been maybe 91/92 ish
Ahh no way! I used to hope I got the annual every Xmas! The Bash street kids one too!
My son has recently got into the Beano. It’s WAY less anarchic and subversive than it used to be. It’s now trying to teach kids lessons and stuff.
I got him a job lot of 1990s Beanos off eBay and they’re so much funnier (and were priced at 24p). He prefers reading the old ones they’re better at getting him reading.
I’m disappointed I threw out my Oink! Number 1 which had a 7″ record attached to it.
I’ve got hundreds of Beanos and Dandys in the loft stretching from 1996 to about 2002. Not many are in this condition!
The Beano used to have the best free gifts. I kept buying it years after I grew out of it, just for the freebies.
My dad threw out my entire collection when I left home at 18. This has brought back plenty of lovely but also upsetting memories in one hit
No way! Loved the Beano back I’m the day, I’ve got the 1st all colour edition from I think 93.
Seeing the Beano makes me feel quite old. I used to collect them back when I was younger.
Are ‘Refreshers’ still being made?

They always had swizzles sweets on them. Must have had a deal with them. What a blast from the past this is.used to get it every week
It’s probably femented into alcohol by now.
I’ve got a load from the 70s, mostly black and white. I bought them off someone at a car boot for 5p each, wonder when they’ll become collectible.
As a kid by grandad would visit us and it would either be a Beano or a Dandy he would bring. Loved me a bit of Dennis or Desperate Dan!
That’s not a sweet. That’s pre 2000 sponsored censorship.

Holy hell I remember this exact strip! I got my first one in 1995 from my grandma and collected them for a few years.

I had a father. My father. I have thought he wasn’t the most affectionate dad. But every week he brought me a copy of the Beano. That was maybe before or after for many months be brought me a copy of a dinosaur-based magazine. They came with collectible cards. I had the folders and plastic wallets and everything to put those collectible cards in. Before Beanos and Dinos he used to fetch chocolate mice back for me and my sister.
All of this is to say –
I liked the Beano. I think might have also been in the Dennis & Gnashed Club?! I probably should have saved some copies of the comic, and
My father was a chap more deserving of love than I gave him credit for at the time.
