  1. The Museum of London should be converted to a flat roof pub.

  2. knock these shit old buildings down. they have not useful value.

  3. I think they could definitely do with some aesthetic improvements as the Barbican has aged like a fine milk but certainly shouldn’t be demolished. It’s the best example of brutalism we have in this country

  4. I unironically like the brutalist aesthetic of the Barbican, but I went to a university that was a brutalist hellscape so maybe I’ve just got Stockholm syndrome.

  5. The Barbican is one of my favourite buildings in London, hopefully they find a way to preserve it!

  6. Despite what is said in almost every reply here, these plans relate to a site near the Barbican Centre/Estate that is not part of it. The Museum of London site (part of the scene) is quite fun, but it’s of niche interest and I can’t see how the City can develop if absolutely everything old has to remain as is).

  7. Let’s check to see if any of the committee people who will give this a green light also have financial interests in the new property development.

If so, redraw the plans, remove said people from their jobs.

  8. I haven’t read the full detail so perhaps I don’t get it, but what’s the big concern around demolishing the existing buildings and replacing them?

I’ve never been a big fan of that bit of the Barbican. The Museum of London space could certainly be better used now it’s no longer a museum.

  9. Glad to see Ironmongers Hall survives these plans intact. Lovely quirky building – a country house surrounded by brutalism.
