Hi all, we are thinking of visiting Senja on either 9/10/11 September by driving from Tromso. Assuming I’m looking at taking the 845/1045 (summer schedule only), do I have to reach very early? Is there a way to make any bookings or do I have to head there early to queue?
Am I better off just driving to Senja?
Thanks!

Hello!
I visited Norway in late July early August in 2023, including Senja and Tromso.
This ferry was OK in terms of capacity vs demand, it was around the 10th of August so more high season than early September when you will visit, so we had to show up early (around 1h/1h30) to board in the middle of the day.
The only ferry during our trip whose service was by far not enough to meet demands was the ferry between Senja and Andøya. That one had people wait between 8h and 12h in queue because there’s only like 2 per day and it’s very small. For this reason alone I would advise against visiting Andøya unfortunately (although there’s a fantastic hike at Måtind) unless you have enough time to drive from Andøya to Senja (around 6h).
It’s normally ok to arrive 30 minutes-1 hour before this ferry. September is an off season, so 30-45 minutes should be fine. But be aware, 11 September is not within the summer schedule if you plan to travel that day.
What I normally do is take the ferry there, and then drive back to Tromsø rather than trying to time with the ferry. The ferry takes you into the heart of Senja, so it’s nice to get to that part quicker. But for the way back to Tromsø, it’s not always worth it in my opinion.
