This is awful obviously, and one of my best friends is Croatian, but is this not just indicative of attacks that happen several times every day in Dublin? If he was bald or had a limp they would have picked up on that.
I know several native Irish people in Cork who have had life threatening attacks happen to them from scumbags they didn’t know, one of them a 16 year old who was out on a date in a park with my daughter and he took a dislike to the fact he had a girlfriend and attacked him for being “gay”. He was kicked in the head but managed to escape. Was that a homophobic attack? Nope it was a scumbag attack by someone who should be behind bars.

I’m from Clondalkin myself. We have a proud diverse community, and many of us are Irish speaking. Grew up in Gaelscoileanna speaking as Gaeilge in the 2000s and 2010s with kids who were Filipino and Nigerian. This bastard brings so much shame to our community.

I don’t understand the lack of coverage over this. An American tourist got attacked last year and we had GoFundMes and talks of honorary citizenship and all kinds of paddywhackery. Another tourist gets murdered and it’s not widely reported?
This is a direct result of our inadequate police force and soft touch sentencing.
These scumbags wouldn’t be going around attacking people if they knew there’d be actual consequences.
In a just society a murder motivated by hate like this would result in a life in prison sentence.
It’s absolutely terrible what happened but the media and the political establishment are going to use this story to push their hate speech bill and that’s the reason it’s getting the attention it is. There’s horrendous attacks every week and Helen McEntee does nothing about it but this case will be perfect for pushing their agenda.
I believe there must be more to the story.
Shouting at someone to speak English is one thing but following them in a car as they get on the bus and then beating one of them with a bat to death is something else. The Gardaí suspect it might be drug related and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.
You don’t need to be a tourist to be attacked by our untouchable scumbag population.
Rest in peace young man. I want to say I hope something good comes out of all this, but even with saving other people by donating organs, nothing good will come for you and your grieving family and friends. Hopefully this incompetent government comes with some answers and justice.
Is it safe for foreigners in Ireland? I have been thinking of moving there, but I keep reading things like this so I’m starting to doubt it’s a good idea.

The streets won’t be safe from these scumbags until they start getting very long prison sentences. They need to be off the streets until they’re no longer a threat.
We also need to legally require parents to raise their children properly, parents should face hefty penalties – from fines, losing benefits, losing custody of all children in their care to full prison sentences – for raising scum.
People need to be held accountable for their actions. Until then, this problem will continue to escalate.
