It’s astounding to me that he can still stand by her and advocate for her care, he’s obviously a very compassionate man
It’s a very tragic case, but mental health is such a difficult thing to diagnose correctly, and very often is dependent on how honest the patient is with there psychologist or psychiatrist. When it comes to things like anti depressants it’s often a trial and error to find a drug that works.
Your heart would go out to him. I hope he gets all the answers and support he needs.
It is terrible that people have to resort to going to court for these answers and to highlight that changes have to be made in how mental health is dealt with in this country.
He shouldn’t have to do this.

How would she have brought the case? Would she have a legal team looking after her like a guardian? No idea how that all works
I have no idea if this lawsuit is a good idea or not. Obviously what happened was a tragedy but unless she expressed the desire to wipe out her kids then how were the HSE going to stop it? It will all come down to records of what she told her doctors I suppose

This is very important. The ‘treatment’ that people receive from ‘mental health’ services needs to be questioned more. The DSM is subjective. There is no scientific basis for the diagnosis. Paula Caplan was a member of committee of the DSM and she and Allen Francis the chair have admitted that whether clusters of criteria were seen as being pathological or not was based on a voting by raising a hand. We really need to question the ethics of St. Pats they still use the cruel and barbaric mistreatment of ECT.
Psychotropic medication can have serious adverse side effects, they are addictive and very difficult to withdraw from.
We really need to become critical of the power of psychiatry
Another example of over paid HSE staff being totally incompetent and facing zero consequences. Unlike this poor family. We’re such a small country and so fucking rich. We should have the best health system in the world. Our leaders are fucking useless and haven’t a clue what they’re doing. It makes me so mad. An absolute embarrassment. I know one girl in management who admitted to me while drunk she does fuck all most days and she’s taking home 900 pw. 😡😡😡
Medics aren’t infallible. I dislike the constant suing of the HSE.
I hope it works out well in the end. Have a family member who was in St Pats and they’re genuinely a joke of a hospital…allowed himself to discharge himself and drive home 🙂
And refuse to give out medical records to next of kin…which is fine in itself but regarding mental health I believe there should be a law in if the therapist believes the person is at risk or a risk to another person next of kin should be told

Moving from inpatient care to community based care is great but fuck do we need more psych beds. If the team caring for you thinks you need in patient care you need inpatient care.

oh yes, she was the mentally insane woman who murdered her kids because of a delusion. it’s pretty tragic no matter how you look at it, true mental illness like psychosis is horrifying and it’s one of the scary things that could happen, not just because of what it does, but what it makes you do to other people. the sad thing is we don’t take these disorders seriously enough
Talk about lack of responsibility. This wouldn’t be entertained if it was a man who did this yet you can bet some southside radio twat will have plenty of pity for her.
Just learning of this case now. It’s terrifying, because she sounds just like me. Struggles with anxiety and depressive disorder. I don’t have kids but this is solidifying my intuition that it’s not right for me. It would be far, far too stressful for me and I don’t know if I would trust myself not to snap. Mental health services are a joke in Ireland, we all know that. If this poor woman had received the proper, attentive care that she sorely needed, maybe this tragedy would not have occurred, and this poor man would not have had his life destroyed too.
The stress to appear ‘normal’ and that you’re managing is palpable, especially when it comes to motherhood. More parents need help. More funding for therapeutic resources nationwide.
The HSE will circle the wagons as they always do. Drag out every single step of getting information as the DPC are beyond useless. GDPR is probably the greatest piece of shit ever. Before you could take cases to the EU but now it has to be dealt with by the local DPC that if they do F all then …
Personally I requested my own files from the HSE. It took 9 months to get them. I feel very sad about the state of this country where you have cunts in the HSE and department of health who are acting in a way like the church did with protection of the system above all costs.
It’s nuts how the narrative changes with gender, flip the sexes and he’d be a sick fuck psycho, that’s how that dude in Cavan was treated. Victims need to be central, compassion and empathy for the perpetrators if they were demonstrably insane at the time of the killings. Seems a tad much to be looking to blame the HSE now, perhaps someone closer to home should have picked up on her dark change
I find it’s a real struggle at times trying to be listened to & to be heard re: getting an accurate diagnosis, once a label is stuck on ‘depression’ etc it seems they stick with that lens rather then actually putting in the time/energy/effore to re-evaluate a person’s care & case. Aside from the absolute mountain of HSE scandals, the cover-ups, the terminally ill women having to fight their cases etc.. a lot needs to be done in terms of how we provide proper health care, where people are actually listened to, not just fobbed off with a prescription after a 10 minute consult.
Especially if you’re a woman & it’s re mental health, or hormones, god forbid both!
Health service mental & otherwise is surely priority for most people in Ireland?? The HSE needs a real overhaul, starting from the very top down.. If you’ve every watched Tony O Brien be questioned in the PAC.. it’d truly make you sick, that people like that have run & are running our health service. In to the ground so to speak. You can hear and see the man’s contempt.
