Thousands protest ‘foreign agent’ law in Georgia | DW News

People took to the streets of Tbilisi to protest government plans to introduce a law to monitor foreign funding of NGOs. Critics have dubbed it the “Russian law” and pointed to Georgia’s aspiration to join the EU.

  1. Sounds like a smart idea that only the wealthy and powerful who are corrupt and take money from these foreigners would protest this. Certainly it would not behoove the common Georgian to protest calling out foreign influence on their domestic representation.

  3. LoL. we don't get it. I think the opposition spreads some kind of disinformation. I believe Georgians don’t want foreign (russian) influence. Sounds like that’s exactly what the government is trying to combat.
    Didn't France approve a similar resolution just two weeks ago?
    The Foreign Agents Law or similar legislation exists in various democratic countries around the world.
