Amazing how little a people can change, even in nearly 21 centuries.
I wouldn’t use Roman examples, fellow barbarian
I think that’s more a failure on the part of the Italians. The Vikings and us stuck at it, we eventually taught them enough of our words that language eventually takes hold.
Yet their economy is twice that of modern day Italy.

Yes, the wheel is round and fire is hot.
They said that in English did they?

How dare they speak about the Welsh like that
Caesar didn’t conquer Britain, he landed but cleared out after a few weeks, ISTR.
Cicero never went to Britain.
Cicero never got within 1000 miles of Britannia. He’s one of those insufferable twats that has to have an opinion on everything.
I’m sure they’d have spoke very highly about you lot, if they’d bothered to conquer your worthless swamp.
Caesar on the Gauls
“Their voices were rough and harsh, their words few, and their language obscure and figurative. Disparaging others, boastful of themselves, arrogant, fond of idleness, they were very quarrelsome and always ready to fight, to relieve the monotony of their existence, if for no other reason”
It gets better, Caesar fucking hated the French.
“The Gauls lacked stability of character, and are often criticized by Caesar for their fickleness; they were also very avaricious and given to superstitions”
Caesar’s ‘success’ in Britain is regarded as, at best, sketchy. I.E it’s very likely he didn’t actually conquer anyone or anywhere and failed in his endeavours in Britain. Hence his anger. He invaded to be the first person to invade Britain, and that was eventually enough to solidify his reputation in Rome regardless of anything actually coming of it. A good example of his lack of success is that nothing ever actually resulted from it afterwards, no contact or interaction with Rome afterwards. He was effectively a tourist.
Pope Gregory the Great said the English people he saw, were so beautiful he named them ‘Angels’.
