Ombudsman finds ‘collusive behaviours’ by police in North in 19 murders by loyalists

  1. Ultimately, this article doesn’t really tell us much that’s new; collusion between Loyalist paramilitary groups and the security services has long been known about. (And collusion between the security services and Republican paramilitary groups has also long been rumoured).

The report states that there’s evidence of “collusive behaviour”, but also that the investigations were professionally handled, whereas I think what people want to know is just how rotten the RUC GC actually was. Were these loyalist infiltrators into the RUC, or were the RUC infiltrating into loyalist groups to direct them on their behalf?

How high up was the collusion, how did it influence the culture, how widespread was it? I think the answers to these questions would provide a more conclusive picture, but presumably investigations revealing those answers would result in criminal trials?

  2. Its just more evidence of why Boris wants a general amnesty for crimes in ‘the troubles’. He doesn’t want the truth to come out about state involvement. He doesn’t want his chums to be investigated. Dirty secrets wont see the light of day under Boris.
