Minority leader Jeffries just said yesterday that Dems will vote to keep his job if he puts Ukraine Aid to a floor vote.
That tells me that not only does he not have to choose between his job and Ukraine aid, but that the Dems know at least one Republican willing to vote in favor of Ukraine Aid.
So, it’s simply a matter of him choosing between Ukraine Aid and whatever bribe or blackmail he is facing.
It has long been perfectly clear that Johnson is finished as a politician if he allows a vote on Ukraine aid that passes the house. By contrast, nothing bad will happen to his political career if he blocks a clean vote on Ukraine. This is not news…
The only real threats Johnson faces are on his right. The MAGA right-wingers will pass a motion to vacate if he permits a Ukraine vote. Worse, if the democrats “save” Johnson by voting to preserve his speakership, this will only serve to mark him as a pariah in the republican party. He will be ridiculed as a democrat. Johnson’s political career will be finished.
By contrast, no one on the center or left is going to bring a motion to vacate. The only real pressure Johnson has is on the right.
I don’t see why everyone keeps talking about congress anymore. There is just NO way Johnson will ever allow a clean vote on Ukraine, so let’s stop whining about it. Ukraine’s only chance for Ukraine support will happen when a new congress is seated in February 2025 (after the November election that removes the republican majority).
Sure, it’s possible Johnson would allow a vote on a poison pilled Ukraine bill (i.e. that includes any number of extraneous things he knows democrats would never support in a million years), but that would just be to score cheap political points and isn’t worth discussing.
The press has been committing journalistic malpractice with these stories about Moses and Ukraine aid. He has no intention of doing anything constructive about it. Because Donald Trump told him not to. It’s very disheartening how childishly naive these people are.
Seems he’s been choosing his job for quite a few months now?
Who would like to bet?
“Spare some pity for Mike Johnson”, this article begins. Seriously? He is in my top five list of “if this person died suddenly it would make the world a better place”. I’m not condoning assassination or anything, but he is a one-man menace to the world.
Marjorie Trailer Queen and her ilk having influence over the world’s future. Sad times
I wouldn’t be surprised if the only reason Moscow Mike was saying he would put it to a vote is to take some steam out of the discharge petition movement to force a vote, and he’s never had any intention to really do it.
Like he cares. The Russians are likely paying him billions. His family won’t have to work for generations.
I hope he does have balls of steel and puts the vote about military aid for UA to a floor vote.
I am more likely to believe there are republicans who wil support it and his party members know it.
Do the right thing once in your life Mike and then disappear
Good
Gee, wonder which one he’ll choose
Republicans are traitors. Vote them ALL out.
Fuck USA, they are bastards and traitors.
Ukraine must create nukes.
Republicans are the fucking worst. Jesus christ
Imagine if a politician had to give up a job to save a country of 40 million people… I really feel for the poor guy
As someone who predicted Mike Johnson’s behavior in October, and Putin in 2002 when I learned he was a KGB agent…
I think Mike Johnson will actually present some bill, but it’ll be loan-based to pacify Trump, and it won’t really get passed before May…
It’ll also have some stuff in it that the Democrats won’t like, so he can get a polling boost for the Republicans. And if it then doesn’t pass he’ll blame the Dems.
We can hope for the best, but we should prepare for the worst (GOP is turning more treasonous by the seasons) and hope Biden stops being afraid of using more unconventional tools of Ukraine funding that he’s declined for fear of losing support.
I guess we will see if he is a man or a conservative
