That looks like oil. US tanks are en route to liberate it
I wonder what happened in November..
Common type of souvenir in the oil and gas industry. Small vial of oil from a well when it comes on stream, that sort of thing.
My Dad also had one it was to celebrate no accidents on site. Wish I still had it but my wicked stepmother took everything
People actually live in a place called shitlands
Sullom Voe is the oil terminal rather than the company. It looks a lot like the souvenirs BP make for their succesful wells, and Sullom Voe was run by BP for a period. I’m sure the other oil companies make them as well though, but I have relatives with identical looking ones.
Not “the Shetlands” – Shetland, or the Shetland Islands.
My old man was on the Sullom Voe terminal build in the mid-Seventies. Me and my sister were going to go and visit him but it was banned for some reason. Not sure who instigated it but the local paper came round and I had to sit on the settee with a book of Shetland birds looking sad. They didn’t even print the story.
You’ve likely heard of Brent Crude being mentioned when talking about oil prices.
That is a sample of *the* Brent Crude.
The sample may have been blended from several different fields from different operators, but geologically the oil arriving at Sullom Voe would have been produced from Brent Group rocks.
100% oil my old man worked there in and round that time
My father was in oil (no, he wasn’t a sardine) and care of his household name oil company employer he had a similar thing: a phial of 1970s North Sea oil sealed in some sort of see through amalgam.
My grandad has one from working on a BP oil ring in the north sea – so can confirm it’s an oil company souvenir
My uncle worked on the construction of the terminal. Sadly, I have no idea who for.
Sorry for the absolutely useless response.
Had something similar from my late Grandad who worked at the Flotta Terminal on Orkney. It had ‘Oxy’ branding on it, and I think the company was called Occidental – who I think had a lot of North Sea oil interests between the 70s-90s.
That is a sample of ‘first oil ashore’ given as a gift to the workers.
