4. I don’t quite get the passus: “Interestingly, some of those who officially went on leave as deserters were later found in the occupied territory of the Kherson region”.

   Is it by “officially” implied that desertations are covered up as leave? Deserting while on leave makes sense but going on leave while deserted not so much. Moreover, nobody is granted leave as far as I know.

   And what makes it interesting that these people are later found in occupied Kherson?

   Is the meaning that deserters who have been caught has been granted “leave” and sent to Kherson (where they eventually desert again)?
