somebody tell me if i’m completely in the wrong for supporting him on this one.
he was born into an outdated institution through no choice of his own. living in that family is obviously fucking awful – you cannot live any sort of normal life. the government supports and funds the continuation of the whole thing and says:
– stay and live playing kings and queens dress up forever, regardless of weather it drives you insane, because it’s tradition and that’s that.
– or you can leave, walk around public as one of the most famous people in the world, and just hope some anti-monarchist psychopath doesn’t plot to assassinate you on the street.
does anybody see my side of it? he’s at much higher risk of danger than a normal celebrity because he’s a prominent figure of the country and it’s culture itself. he’s the perfect target for somebody wanting to have an attack against the country.
They’re rich. Not exactly ‘independently’ but basically they’re fine. Pay for your own damn bodyguard.

It’s time to give up this archaic notion of a royal family.
If one of them can’t “defect” without fear of being shot or otherwise maimed or killed because of their membership, without having a huge security detail, then it’s clearly time to stop it.
“But the royal family brings in millions in tourist money”
I believe that’s the buildings and the pomp, not the family.
Either way…it wouldn’t be the first time this country sold off/shut down a profitable source of income, would it?
It’s time for this country to grow up.
As much I think the guy is a prize pillock. The issue is as I understand it he wants to pay but he wants the police as they have access to the intelligence. Where as private bodyguards don’t have that.
The home office won’t allow it regardless of if he pays.
