Mexico cuts diplomatic ties with Ecuador after police storm embassy to arrest ex-VP • FRANCE 24
Mexico’s government severed diplomatic ties with Ecuador after police broke into the Mexican Embassy to arrest a former Ecuadorian vice president, an extraordinary use of force that shocked and mystified regional leaders and diplomats. Ecuadorian police late Friday broke through the external doors of the embassy in the capital, Quito, to arrest Jorge Glas, who had been residing there since December. Glas sought political asylum at the embassy after being indicted on corruption charges.

México giving asylum to a convicted corrupt official …. But does nothing to eliminate the Cartels that control half of Mexico. …
God Be The Glory.
Repent Sinners!
Is the sovereignty of an embassy actually written down somewhere in international law? Was this an actual violation of international law or was it basically just "rude" like farting in an elevator or something? If it was an actual violation of international law then the president of Ecuador should be jailed for ordering the violation of international law. I could see Mexico having a good case for extradition and a trial in Mexican courts.
This is a move by the elites to stain AMLO's presidency but the people of the world stand with AMLO!
Entering into an embassy was the wrong approach, but we must keep in mind that Mexico had made it a habit to grant asylum to organized crime members that manage to make it into governments of South American countries. Just a year or two ago they tried to do it in Peru.
They really should have just surrounded the embassy, broken diplomatic relations with Mexico, expelled the diplomats and arrest him either trying to escape or after the embassy property ceased to have that status.
I hope this will start a discussion over Mexico's actions in South America. The takeover of South American governments by organized crime is a troubling trend, and Mexico acting as their escape path when stopped is even worse.
Even so, I only consider Ecuador'snavtions semi-justified because they are in an existential crisis, with othanized crime assasinating politicians and officers of the law to gain further control.
Why all the HORRIFYING Hypocrisy and Double Standards? Iranian Embassy was bombed and people killed without ANY Internacional OUTRAGE but now outrage of police invading the Mexican Embassy? It is TIME to Free the TRUTH from Western Hostage.
Mexico is Narco state, defending narco-connected ex politicians. We will not tolerate this
Good for Mexico. They should do that and more. This whole situation should be investigated because this looks like Ecuador had outside help or had an OK by a bigger boss.
There is a huge difference between storming into an embassy and taking all foreign workers arrested and storming into an embassy for your vice president that has been prosecuted by his government. One is an act of war and the other is a careless, un rational decision.
Stop trying to make this black and white, there is no war.
The US born Ecuadorian president is either stupid or has backing by a certain country. Mexican president was answering a question from one of the reporters. Shouldn’t have escalated to this point.
United States make this happen because Mexican President its not following there b.s.!!
Ecuador is trying to justify its mistake with silly arguments
I have never heard of this until this disgrace happened.
Well what do you know. Mexico did something. Sheltering criminals. Go figure. And what would a Mexican consulate do? Bringing Mexicans into your country brings no added value. Mexicans are just a drag on anything and everything they get involved in.
Israel bombed an Iranian Embassy building, violating international law, and the world has done nothing to hold them accountable. Nations could have expelled Israeli diplomats from their countries but no action was taken. Ecuador viewed that and thought nothing of also violating international law by breaking into a Mexican Embassy. Mexico was right in ending ties with Ecuador and other nations should follow suit, but they probably won't. When international law goes unpunished it is basically a green light for countries to act as they please. The world is descending into utter chaos.
Viva Mexico Kabrones!
I'm surprised the US Secretary of State or President hasn't condemned this yet. Mexico's one of our best allies, and what Ecuador did was literally invaded Mexican sovereign territory. First the Israelis bomb the you-know-what out of the Iran Embassy in Syria, now this. Is this the beginning of WWIII we're witnessing?
Mexican President Obrador is causing instability in the Latin America region, he is constantly attacking nonleftist regimes, not only Ecuador but he has been very critical of Argentinian President Milei, he needs to stop making inappropriate comments
Go cry Mexico your attempts to influence Ecuadors affairs have failed and you guys are weak.
We all know that all politicians at least 99% of them including presidents are corrupt. Especially presidents.
Actually all Ecuadorians are in favor of the president’s action. Mexican government are known to protect drug leaders
Embassies now need to protect themselves from the host country.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏para mexico
Whether Ecuador thinks it's right or not it was a huge violation of international law. I don't think it was worth Ecuador losing its relations with Mexico. Whether the man was guilty or not you do not violate international law by invading an Embassy that is protected by the UN.
“Over embassy arrest” they went in an embassy without permission, that’s an invasion/ act of war
I see that Ecuador has learned well from the US and Israel: they can just ignore diplomatic protocol that has been maintained for centuries.
Ecuador is lucky we have a president that’s a pacifist coward
Its an American conflict. For those that don't know, America is a continent not a country. Both Ecuador and Mexico are American countries.. Both American countries will sort out their differences one way or another. It won't escalate..
Now lets see how the international court handles this..
They need to be firm but fair but hold Ecuador accountable…
Its a tricky line to play…
I know one thing..
The punishment needs to be severe enough that other countries will think twice before doing this…
Correa shouldn’t been talking about corruption.
This event sets a huge dangerous precedent for us all.
USA is trying to get Mexico into war. Because they can’t control AMLO. Guess who is president rn jn Ecuador? Yup a miami born guy and he really young too… anyone suspicious???
How long did Julian hide out in the Equadorian Embassy. What a ridiculous silly little country.
It’s all about who has the power then law doesn’t apply nothing new to me why are we all surprised?
This should not be happen I will dent international law and order.
