The Brennan Bill to fix musicians’ streaming remuneration fails at second reading – but the fight continues

  1. > The financial reality is that over £1 billion in revenue was generated from 114 billion music streams in the UK in 2020. But despite this level of income, artists can be paid as little as 13% of that total.

That tells you all you need to know. It’s not that no one is making money from streams, **someone** is making money, and it’s criminal that more it doesn’t go to the artist and instead goes to the label.

But of course we back the big companies who despite making huge profits ‘can’t afford the kind of massive hit that giving their artists a bit more would cause’.

  2. >Objections to the bill had already been raised by UK industry bodies such as AIM and the BPI, who said the bill would undermine the “essential investment that labels provide, harming new talent and the long-term competitiveness of British music.”

Typical response, yet this is the exact opposite of what’s happening.

  3. Honestly can you imagine if this actually won? Can you fucking imagine paying £12 to stream an album *once*? Because that’s whay these fucking vampires want.

The days of being a multi millionaire because you’re semi attractive and have your face slapped on an album cover are over – thank fuck and good riddance and fuck every single person who thinks this bill is a good thing.
