  1. Reese Witherspoon questions cop if he knows her name while he arrests her

  2. Nah.. techbros just “reinvented” cable and now that money goes to them

  3. She makes a good point. All the streaming sites that dont release viewership metrics rob the creative talent from data necessary for fair negotiation

  4. Look at Anya Taylor joy. Started in a Chess series to now a lead in a mad max movie.

  5. Wtf is she talking about there are stars 40 years younger than her already

  6. I mean I’m sure pretty girls without talent will be fine.

  7. Obviously she’s talking about mid budget non franchise movies, which used to be a thing people would go to the theater for but now are relegated to streaming. Which isn’t profitable. But I think the tide is turning and folks are coming back to the theater more for stuff outside of franchise fair.

  8. She’s kind of saying that literal mid tier actors who made their career on low to mid tier content wouldn’t have been able to then maybe punch up to the big time…..

….and yea. Maybe they shouldn’t lol.

Kinda rich for her to compare herself to Jennifer Aniston too. If Friends didn’t happen, I don’t think random mid tier content would have rose Jennifer Aniston to her heights she reached.

A good point made here too is Anya Taylor Joy was in a few films, but then took off after Queen’s Gambit…a streaming only Netflix show….

  9. Yes and we’ve seen them happen in the last 5-10 years.

ATJ did some horror/scream queen stuff and worked her way into a star.

MBB has emerged as a star from a streaming show.

As has David Harbor. Though he’s obviously not on the same level of fame as ATJ or MBB currently.

The lady from the Good Place boosted herself to far higher than she’d ever been before the show.

I’d argue that while the sheer volume may go away, the chance for people to emerge as stars has increased – certainly not become any harder than when Witherspoon did it.

Odd in a way that she’s comparing herself to Aniston. Completely different levels of success imo.

  10. I think I get what she means. This appears to have been more focused on the business side of it, not just the idea of being “a star”. Maybe the deal structures and paychecks have changed permanently. I think the industry is in such a chaotic period right now that it’s hard to predict.

  11. Something will rise that is significant again. This is a transition and ultimately people
Like to see performances that are special and above the rest. I just think we are
    Putting in a floor now

  12. Streaming is the future, people liked it or not.

  13. I find it fascinating that so many people view actors getting handed multi million dollar checks for very mediocre work as almost a law of nature and something that must be protected at all costs.

Personally I don’t really care if Reese or the actors that follow in her footsteps make 1 million dollars a year or 10 million dollars. It’s the actors, writers, stage workers and other people in the industry who have normal middle class or lower incomes and who are threatened by the way the industry is evolving that should be the focus of the conversation.

It’s like when some actress is complaining she only gets $5 million for a movie when her male costar gets 10. Oh no! Now you can only buy a semi lavish mansion!

Why the fuck should I care?

  14. There will never be another sitcom with a 22-episode season that pays its cast $1M an episode. That much seems unlikely to ever occur again.

  15. Not to mention AI, just wait until anybody will be able to make a movie without the need of actors , film crews, or fx. Interesting times!

  16. She and Jen are really trying to compete for least likable former heartthrob, eh?

  17. Lol streaming.. I wonder if any creative pursuits will be possible in 10 years

  18. Of, course not. But it’s hysterical that they are just getting the message.

  19. She’s wrong, and silly, but it wouldn’t actually be a bad thing if fame wasn’t a thing in our society to such ridiculous levels.

  20. She’s like Joan Crawford in the 1970s talking about the old studio system.
