  1. I think it’s silly I can’t point people to a particular archiving io website, that they could use and out the link to be able to read the article.

  2. He’s not wrong

And I do see an effort by sinn Fein to get back involved in local issues, and them attending various hospital protests etc around the country

They got a proper kicking at the last local and euro elections, and needed an EGM to address the issues, where McDonald got told what’s,what at,by party members

An roasting like the referendums would do no harm to get a similar at local and euro elections, and back to proper politics, not having a speak/hot take on every topical issue…..

vote building stragedy is better than burning through votes chasing those who will never vote for them anyway

  3. Because Sinn Feins main supports are people who are anti the current government. That’s covers a huge range of people. From the far right to far left and moderates that want to see change.

  4. I do think a lot of racists who traditionally voted SF because it was the edgy alternative party are going elsewhere because more openly racist politicians have entered the fray.

Modern SF which has become more main stream is built off a base of traditional working class FF and labour voters and people who became of voting age during the 08 crash and have been screwed over by FF or FG again and again and this crowd are just leftovers of the before times from the 00s and earlier. I can partly understand them feeling left behind. But fuck em.

  6. Aontú are in touch with their own supporters, they’re all in the same WhatsApp group

  7. He’s complaining that SF have principles that they won’t change based on the most recent news story. That seems to be a point in the favour of SF tbh

  8. Stick surround lads – when the establishment goes way off the parameters that are acceptable to the mainstream then the mainstream voters will look for an alternative & Aountu start to look viable as well as a fuck to the govt/traditional parties – when there is no alternative this is the alternative

  9. The Irish electorate is by and large, centrist and SF, in an effort to gain support have started to move towards that.. apart from doing it in a flip flop way, it’s alienating their core support.

  10. I can’t take him seriously on anything because the bitterness just radiates off him!

  11. ““It is a very centralised, managed political party. It has a small number of people at the top who make the decisions, and decisions are rolled out from the top,” he told the Irish Border Poll podcast.”

The lad’s entire family are part of the inner circle of his “movement,” he’s hardly one to criticise SF over centralised management.

You just need to look at some of the absolute lunatics that are attracted to Aontú – anti-vaxxers like McCloskey, their former Deputy Leader, anti-immigrant gobshites and rabid anti-choice “activists” to realise that their party is full of soft-heads, racists and single issue political nomads.

  12. He is right and he came across well during the referendums.

I can see Aontú gaining a few seats in the election

  14. Sinn Fein one time was a Republican Party trying to unite our Island… now they have been hijacked by a crowd who want Abortion , Puberty Blockers, Trans Gender rammed down our Throats….

  15. As a long term Sinn Fein voter, it seems to me like they’re the dog that caught the car. Long term, grass roots supporters like me helped normalise the party … And eventually a new young generation of voters have joined the bandwagon – great – bringing Sinn Fein within spitting distance of being in power. And now they don’t know who to serve.

They run the risk of making the same mistake Labour made … Betraying their grass roots support base whilst in government, and then getting immediately decimated and setting the party back for generations.
