Mexico to take Ecuador embassy raid to international court • FRANCE 24 English

Mexico said it will file a complaint against Ecuador at the International Court of Justice on Monday following the raid on its embassy in Quito, which prompted searing international condemnation. Mexican diplomatic personnel left Ecuador on Sunday as the two countries severed ties after Quito’s security forces stormed the embassy late Friday to arrest a former vice president sheltering inside.

  1. It will be interesting to see how this plays-out!
I wonder if Ecuador is correct, International Law says, that people facing charges
are not to be granted assylum.

  2. The ICJ does not have much influence in South America. Those nations' leaders deal with whomever they want to make "friends"
(temporary allies) with. Also, USA and China/Russia/Iran will take sides and supply the enemy of their enemy.

  3. “People facing charges should not be granted asylum” Yet Ecuador was giving safe haven to Julian Assange. Guess it’s fine if they do it, and either way that excuse doesn’t work because they still broke international law by invading an embassy. They will lose any icj court battle.

  4. Hasnt anybody explain to Ecuador how an embassy works? According to international law, an embassy is a territory extention of the country it represents, which means Ecuador invaded another's country sovereign territory

  5. If he wasn't facing charges he wouldn't need asylum. Don't know if he is guilty or innocent, doesn't matter in the case of violation of the embassy. From US support for Mexico with love.

  6. According to Ecuador, if a woman claims she is being abused by a man and she seeks protection at her neighbor's house, that man can simply deny this and break into the neighbor's house, punch the neighbor, and kidnap the victim without any issue because the man has to be believed. 🤦🏻‍♂️

  7. Perhaps Mexico should stop hiding delinquents Presidents like the ex Peruvian Donkey ….besides Mexico is A narco government ….

  8. This is intolerable. It would seem the fad started by the US after 9/11 — "International law be damned, long live total impunity!" — has caught on. Next thing you know, if you are not carrying a stone axe, no getting invited to parties.
