It was only made illegal relatively recently in the UK… It puts a huge burden on farmers to spray their fields with fungicides to ensure mushrooms don’t grow on their land which is bad for the economy and environment too.
IIRC one of the EU’s CAP requirements is that farmers spray their land to ensure illegal mushrooms don’t grow, which is where this all started.
That’s one way to increase tourism I guess.
